The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Inn Bariloche is an ultra-modern hostel with a nice location affording guests an amazing view of Lago Nahuel Huapi. There are large common areas enabling guests to socialise, watch TV, or just chill out and enjoy the views. At reception you will find plenty of information on activities to undertake during your stay in Bariloche or assistance with booking other HI Hostels for your onward travel.

The Location

The bus terminal is a few kilometers outside of Bariloche Centre. It is possible to catch a local bus from the terminal into the town centre but be warned that although the hostel is located an easy walk away from the Civic Centre, it is situated atop a fairly steep hill and there are quite a few steps to navigate once you reach the hostel in order to get to the reception area -- so if you're tired after your journey you may wish to take the easy option and take a taxi from the bus terminal for a reasonable fare.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Although a little small, the dorms are clean and comfortable and have large lockers in which to store your belongings -- remember to bring a lock though. Guests are provided with a room key, for which a deposit is required upon check-in. Most dorms have en-suite bathrooms -- they are nicely decorated but lack hooks for clothes and in-shower shelving for toiletries; the shower cubicle is somewhat small but shower gel is provided in a dispenser on the wall; there is also a liquid soap dispenser at the sink -- a nice touch. The hostel does offer private rooms for higher rates if desired.

Common Spaces

There are a few large common areas for guests to use. Next to the reception area is a TV with sofa seating and there are also some long tables and chairs next to the kitchen area. Also located here are the computer terminals available for guest use at no extra charge and the hostel also provides Wi-Fi for those with laptops. The kitchen is small but clean and tidy and guests are welcome to use its facilities (fridge, microwave, gas rings, and toasters -- there is no oven). Outside, there is a small lawn and a decking area with tables and chairs. Smoking is not permitted inside the hostel, which is a good thing.

Summary

This hostel offers breakfast and dinner included in the price. In order to obtain the free dinner, guests must ask at reception for a voucher and take this along to a nearby hostel (a few minutes' walk along the road). The basic meals are served here in the bar area, making it a more social occasion and a vegetarian option is also offered if so desired. Overall, this is an extremely pleasant hostel with a nice, relaxed atmosphere. It is modern, clean, and bright with amazing views of the lake.

2 Wouldn't go back
The hostel staff were unwelcoming and acted like college RAs. One night we were playing music in our room at 10:30 p.m. and they just came in without knocking and told us we had to turn it off. The bathrooms were tiny and stayed wet after showers. The views from the hostel were beautiful. The dinners were ok for being free. The bar was cool. I wouldn't stay there again though. It didn't seem like much of a hostel -- more like a college dorm where you have to watch your every move.

3 All and all it was not that bad. I just got one beef...and that is their book exchange. Finding books in English is really hard in SA, and there is no need to make it harder by having a 2 for 1 book exchange. What backpacker takes two books with them!! I think that this is a really rotten policy and for that reason alone I will not stay at a HI again.

5 We stayed here in July and had such a great time. It is really clean, warm and has excellent cooking facilities. It is central and the view from the hostel is fabulous. Also Javier and the staff are very helpful.

5 I found Bariloche Hostel excellent. It has an awesome view and is close to town but not in town, more pleasant in my opinion. Plus the place is super clean and has a lovely atmosphere. Javier and his wife are the best hosts. They helped us out on several occasions, for which my friends and I are very grateful. I highly recommend this hostel from my time spent there while in Bariloche.
