If you are looking for basic cheap accommodation (relatively speaking) this is probably up your street. If you have higher expectations about hostels in terms of real cleanliness of cutlery, extras like the Internet, and not wanting to wait in line for the shower of an evening, than maybe you should re-think your budget and go somewhere more expensive. The lady who runs the place is helpful and has plans to renovate, which I think is definitely the way forward with this small, slightly rickety, hostel. By the way, you should be weary of the staircase...it requires precision of foot work! The hostel is a little bit out of the way, so I would definitely recommend getting some car hire (fairly cheap with Atlas at Chambery airport). There is an hourly local bus service, but it may mean coming home earlier than you want. Lovely unspoilt area. Great place to learn to ski/snowboard. Not exactly bustling with nightlife (unless you make the effort to get to Arc 1800, or the slightly closer, and less docile, Vallandry). This place is not for 'girlie girls'.

WOW! What a friendly atmosphere! I love the stairs! The owner is very nice and down to earth. There were some problems with my arrival and she was patient and kind through our whole stay. I would recommend this place to all my friends and will try to stay again next season. It's very clean; the shower is nice and hot, and the whole feel of the place is beyond explanation. The town of Nancoix is tiny and beautiful. Getting there is just a little tricky, so be ready to ski to the bus stop or pay for a cab from the train station. If you get a chance, arrive in the da time so you can navigate. I had a little adventure at night and ended up on the wrong side of the mountain on arrival. That's another story. Stay here, it's fantastic!

Advantages: 1. It's a nice person running the hostel and the people there last year (03/04 winter) were very nice as well. 2. The price is one of the best you can find and the paradiski lift is really near. 3. Les Arcs is one of the best areas I've been. Disadvantages: 1. It's a bit dirty now and then. 2. It has a very small capacity kitchen for the self catering with more than 8 people in at the same time. 3. Going out is putting your thumb up or bringing your car.
