This is not a typical hostel -- it's a college dorm that rents out rooms in the summer when school is not in session. As such, all the rooms are private (not dorms) which in itself makes this a great deal. Each room has a fridge and a microwave and for an extra $5 per night you can have a private bathroom. Sheets are included but you have to bring your own towel. Having said this, the place is very institutional and can be quite noisy because the sound really echoes off the cinder blocks. The rooms are not nearly as clean as they could be and the pillows and mattresses are encased in plastic. I suppose this makes them more sanitary but I like to take my own pillow for comfort. The location is not great if you are walking but it does have public transit access (hourly, I think) and if you driving it's fine to get around. The campus itself is kind of nice because there are some walking trails and a stream running through the campus. In spite of the cons I always stay here when I go to Thunder Bay in the summer just because I can have a private room with a fridge and microwave for about $18 as an HI member. Non-members pay about $5 more and it's an additional $5 if you want a private bathroom. — Karen Golec (2006-10-29)
