Hostelz.com's Review
The Apsley Ski Lodge, this cute little ski lodge, is situated in the heart of the Austrian Alps and is a cozy place to stay winter or summer.

The Location

The hostel is situated in the village of Niederau, approximately ten minutes' drive from the township of Wörgl, in the Wildschonau Valley. If you are arriving by bus or train, you will arrive in the town of Wörgl. There is an hourly bus to Niederau (except on Sunday when it is less frequent). The relevant bus stop is the Niederau Spar (Supermarket). After arriving at the stop, walk back down the large hill for approximately one hundred fifty meters, and the hostel will be on your left hand side. If you are arriving by car, there is limited space to park at the hostel, but finding a park on the street should not be a problem. There is a small supermarket up the street, and there are many restaurants also within walking distance.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are of a decent size, and there are dorm rooms and private rooms available. The security at the hostel is quite lax, which is a reflection on the village generally. There are no lockers available for storage of personal valuable items, and there is only one key available for each room. This means that if you are in a dorm, the room generally remains unlocked. Each room has an en suite bathroom, and there is an additional bathroom in the common area. The showers have hot water, and the water pressure is good. There is a ledge within the shower for the storage of shower items.

Common Spaces

There is a common room with a television and couches, and a large selection of DVDS for those cold nights. The dining room also comes equipped with a bar, and the hostel has a very large selection of Schnapps. Breakfast is included, although don't expect all of the trimmings. On occasion the staff will prepare meals for guests for a reasonable price, otherwise, the hostel is within walking distance of many restaurants. There are no self-catering facilities at the hostel. Wi-Fi is included, but not particularly strong. The overall atmosphere of the hostel is relaxed, however the hostel itself is a bit drab and requires a bit of work aesthetically.

Summary

This hostel is chilled, reasonably priced, and well positioned to explore the best of the Wildschonau Valley.

5   Would recommend to anyone going through Austria Jim, Tom, and Malisa made my trip to Austria and unforgettable one. The hostel wasn't even really a hostel, it was a ski lodge and was so cozy. 2 nights weren't enough and I had to go back, I'm sure it won't be my last time either.  , age 22, USA ()
