Description
This is a small friendly backpacker hostel quite close to town yet close to bush walks & rivers. We have a lovely relaxed atmosphere and everyone who stays with us has a great time, in fact most people stay longer than intended! We have hammocks in the garden (& plenty of birds singing), bbq & private outdoor area. Full laundry, kitchen, lounge, internet - all the usual facilities. We provide free tea, coffee, milk & homemade cookies. Also we have free bikes to sightsee on. We offer free pickup & dropoff to busses & have extensive knowledge of the area & New Zealand to help with travel plans. Having storage available is helpful to trampers; we also have camping equipment available at very reasonable rates. In fact, we have everything! We look forward to seeing you at Alan's Place in sunny Nelson.

Alan's Place in Nelson was the best hostel I have stayed in throughout my year in New Zealand. I stayed there for three months and was like family. The owners Jo and Andy were so very kind and looked after us all so well. This is a very good hostel. I felt like I was at home here. The staff are all really nice and helpful. There are even heated blankets on the beds!! I am from Oklahoma, where it is summer now, so this was a treat since it is winter in New Zealand. Also, take advantage of the nearby bush walks. They are very nice. — Anonymous (2004-09-01)
