This hostel just got me the real sensation of being in New Zealand. It was like my family! The owners, Jo and Andy, just made us feel at home, and at all the places I had been around New Zealand, Alan's Place got stuck in my mind forever! Highly recommended!

Alan's Place in Nelson was the best hostel I have stayed in throughout my year in New Zealand. I stayed there for three months and was like family. The owners Jo and Andy were so very kind and looked after us all so well. From the barbeques to the baking cookies to the hat parties and lastly the fantastic friendships, I couldn't have asked for more! I just wish I could do it all over again.

This is a very good hostel. I felt like I was at home here. The staff are all really nice and helpful. There are even heated blankets on the beds!! I am from Oklahoma, where it is summer now, so this was a treat since it is winter in New Zealand. Also, take advantage of the nearby bush walks. They are very nice.
