Posada Mexico is a tranquil hostel -- airy and open, with beautiful gardens/common areas. The location is good. You could walk from the bus station (but it’s not too expensive to take a cab) and it’s quite close to the center. The staff/owners are warm, welcoming, and accommodating. They have free internet that is reasonably fast and lots of books that you can borrow or exchange. They have a DVD player -- you have to pay for it, but if you do, you can take it to your room, which is nice.
Breakfast is included, and there are three options to choose from. The meals aren’t large, but they are free, so who’s to complain. The rooms are spotless, bathrooms clean and well stocked, and there is a locker for every bed. Showers have hot water, but it’s not quite hot enough for the cold weather. In addition, the rooms get quite cold. If there are no large groups you can ask for extra blankets.
The hostel has two well stocked kitchens, but in one the refrigerator doesn’t work (and there is no freezer). There is a nice community spice/leftover area. The area is surrounded with cheap and amazing restaurants though, so you might find you don’t even want to cook.
