The Hostelz.com Review
The hostel is composed of a main building with reception, dinning room, groups' common/dinning room, and dorms. It's clean and tidy. The reception is often closed but you can ring a bell or knock on the door to the right. The main building closes at 10 pm, but the huts are outside and therefore have no curfew. There are bathrooms in the main building and a hut of showers and toilets for the huts' use. This means that if you stay in a hut and have to go to the bathroom during the night, you have to go outside.

You can camp if you bring your tent. It's cheaper than a bed. At the time of this review a bed costs 14 euros a night including breakfast. Dinner costs around 10 euros. The meals are taken at large tables in the dinning room. The tasty breakfast is a buffet with bread, meat, jam, chocolate spread, cereals, and hot beverage.

The dorms in the huts consist of four bunkbeds each. They are confortable and clean. They also include cupboards, a table, and chairs in the room.

Finding this hostel can be a bit difficult. Thankfully there are roadsigns with "Jugendherberg" along the way. From the Norddeich train station, walk with the sea on your right. There is a road on the dike and one at the foot of the dike. From the one at the foot of the dike, you cannot see the sea –- take that road. After a souvenir shop and an ice cream shop there is a road sign indicating the YH to the left, so make a left. Then make a right. It's next to an old people's home (a red brick building with 4 or 5 floors).

When making a reservation be sure to be clear that you want a dorm room bed if that is what you want, or you may end up with a private room. If you do insist, you'll find there is surely a bed available. The general atmosphere is ok. It's not easy to meet other backpackers as this place sleeps mainly families, so this hostel isn't very social for young backpackers, but it is a place to sleep.
