Hostelz.com's Review
Masaya Bogota Hostel is an excellent option in the historic Candelaria area of Bogota. People from all over the world share experiences in the two communal areas on comfy couches and beanbags.

The Location

Right in the middle of La Candelaria, Masaya couldn't be better situated. The district is full of cafes and bars and you are never more than a couple of minutes' walk from a number of small convenience stores. The TransMilenio bus stop is five minutes' walk away and services the whole city.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorms are small but have comfy beds and duvets, with curtains offering extra privacy. All are fitted with spacious lockers built into the bunks (provide your own padlock). Bathrooms are frequently cleaned and more than adequate. There are two toilets and four showers in the male bathroom (we assume the female one is the same). The showers are always warm with reasonable pressure.

Common Spaces

There are two common spaces -- one has a plasma TV and Nintendo Wii, with a choice of movies. There are numerous beanbags and a couch that will fit six people comfortably. There are also a number of hammocks, although they are tightly fitted into small areas, so they aren't comfortable. The other communal space is outside with beer garden-style umbrellas that shelter the smokers from the frequent Bogota downpours. There is table tennis in the outside area and a small pool table next to the TV room. Coffee is free and always available.

Having stayed at other hostels in Bogota, and spoken to others that have done the same, Masaya comes out near (if not at) the top of the list every time. While internet can be temperamental, they have three routers, which more or less resolves the problem. One tip however -- although the staff are friendly, it seems that at times they don't quite know who has paid for what, so it is advisable to get a receipt once a room has been paid for. Overall, the pros more than outweigh the cons.
