Montabaur Hostel is conveniently situated on the A3 Autobahn between Cologne and Frankfurt, thus making an ideal overnight stop for the traveller - or a pleasant spot in which to spend a few relaxing days in the Germany countryside.
On the outskirts of the historic town of Montabaur, right on the edge of a forest, this hostel has 136 beds. A secure car park for guests is situated a few metres from the front entrance. The welcome from the multilingual receptionists is cordial and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble for them!
First impressions are of an ultra-modern, spotlessly clean high quality establishment. The entrance hall with its chairs and tables for guests, is bright and cheerful. The rooms are equally pristine. Our 2-bed family room was immaculate with en suite shower, toilet and washbasin and a view of the forest. Bedding was crisp and freshly starched and towels were also provided.
The Bistro serves pizza and refreshments, including beer and wine. Breakfast is a feast of healthy fare served in the pleasant 5-star dining room, presided over by the exceptional caterer, who carefully places name cards on all the guests' tables! (This has to be a first for any hostel!)
The garden has pleasant wooden benches where one may enjoy the tranquil surroundings. The hostel is situated approximately 2 km. from the town centre and is easily reached by car, bus or on foot.
The town of Montabaur itself has a variety of pleasant restaurants and pubs. The architecture of timber framed buildings is a photographer's delight. The striking bright yellow Montabaur Castle on the hill is worth a visit. Built in 959 A.D., it now houses a luxury hotel and conference centre for German businesses (the Akademie Deutscher Genossenschaften).
The only thing lacking at Montabaur Hostel is a guest kitchen and internet facilities – otherwise, it is a 5-star Hostel by anyone's standards!
