It's a cheerful and friendly place, but it still has a sort of an "under construction" feel about it that doesn't make it very comfortable. The dorms and private rooms are very small with no exceptions (every dorm sleeps up to a maximum of 4/5, but with the luggage in it too you barely have space to move or stretch). The toilets and showers (two per floor) are clean and well lit. There's an outdoor bar and small swimming pool. Dining tables are outside too and the common kitchen and TV room too are quite small. Things are going to change pretty soon though, because even now they're working to enlarge the main building so to include the outer area all the way to the bar.
That said, the Overlanders Lodge is close to Knysna's waterfront and it is situated just one block from main street. The rooms are quite warm and the hostel is continously tided up. When you check in you get a discount "ticket" for almost every restaurant in the vicinity and their canoeing trips are definitely worth trying.
