Worse experience ever
The Naval Hill Backpacker does look really nice but unfortunately that is the only positive thing about this backpackers. Never ever in my life have I been treated this bad. The owner is an alcoholic grumpy old man who is not enjoying his work at all. If you are a girl I definitely want to discourage you going there. He hates women in general. He was unbelievable disrespectful towards us. Without any reason telling us we were whores who only come to South Africa to have random sex. When one of our girls started arguing with him, he even threatened that he would hit her so hard she wouldn't even remember it the next day. One evening after a nice night out in town we went back to the backpackers and relaxed a little in the living room. When he saw us the first thing he said was, "What are you doing here? Why are you not laying on your back having sex with all the guys who are staying here?" Please people, even the guidebooks write negative things about this backpacker. There are other B&B or hostel in Bloem as well. Don't waste your time on this guy, but spend it on enjoying Bloemfontein, because it is a beautiful city! Enjoy your stay in South Africa!

Great, will go back and recommend to mates
Home away from home. We needed a clean bed to rest at night and recover from the previous night and this place did the trick. Secure, clean, decent ablution block, if you do backpackers, you won't be let down here. Best was the hospitality shown by owner and manager, really made our three nights in Bloem a home away from home.

This hostel is a wee bit sketchy. We arrived late at night and were checked in by a fellow who the next morning did not remember checking us in, and also managed to check another guy into our private room an hour after we got there, thinking that it was empty. There were people injecting miscellaneous substances into themselves all night and performing X-rated acts out in public. With metal siding walls all sounds are amplified, leaving little to the imagination. However, we did survive the night in one piece, and had nothing taken!
