HI - Nordhausen Hostel is located in Nordhausen, right in the middle of the Hart Mountains, a very touristy spot in Germany, with so many natural activities to enjoy. The town is also the home of the infamous Dora Nazi concentration camp, where the V-1 and V-2 rockets were built with slave manpower during World War II. Here you will find a typical Middle Age welcoming village, perfect to stroll around and enjoy hiking and country activities. In the winter, skiing facilities are also available at a good price.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel receives many school groups and families, so there are big dorms but there are also individual rooms at a very low price. Beds are soft, mattresses are new and very good quality, and closets are brand new. Breakfast and sheets are included in price. Showers are excellent, hot and powerful, and comfortable, and breakfast is a great all-you-can-eat type -- help yourself.
Common Spaces
The hostel is an old, German-style building, restored with all modern conveniences. The whole place is all very clean, with large rooms and sitting areas and extensive common outside areas with many sports available. The surroundings are all very quiet as a small town requires but the people at the hostel make it very lively. Although the hostel has no curfew, it is usually very silent at night, since everybody respects the silent hour. No social activities or sightseeing programs are offered, however the reception people are all very nice and very willing to furnish all information, such as train schedules, weather forecasts, mountain tracks in very good English -- or in German. Definitely it is not a party hostel. When needed, the reception people can take care of your luggage.
You cannot cook in this hostel but dinner and lunch are available at a low price, with reservations required for these meals. There is a refreshments machine in the lobby. Smoking is only allowed in outside areas.

Getting to the hostel is not difficult but it will require you to take the tram and change lines. The hostel is not located downtown but Nordhausen is a small village and you can get all information at the railroad station. It might take you from ten to twenty minutes to get there. It is not advisable, however, to walk there since it's a long walk and you might get lost.

This hostel is a very nice place to visit and to stay. It offers cheap and comfortable accommodation, in a pretty well preserved typical German Middle Age town, where there is a lot to see and do in a rural environment.
