Aspen Lodge advertises itself as the newest of Queenstown hostels but it's a bit rundown and could use a facelift. The sealing around our room's windows and door were coming off, making it tricky to close securely (and keep out noise and cold), and the fabric on the lounge chairs were a bit ratty. If you're a clean-freak you might be a little uncomfortable here. But if all you're looking for is a place to crash after a full day of activities or a full night of partying, it's one of the more conveniently located backpackers in town so you don't have to stumble too far!
It's only about a 10 minute easy walk to the harbor, which connects to all of the main streets. There are two full kitchens and lounges with internet access, and there's a great view of the gondola -- it's about a 15 minute walk up to the gondola entrance. Bathrooms with a toilet a shower are in each of the dorm rooms. This is convenient but when all eight beds are full, it's a problem.
From the Intercity bus stop, walk up Shotover Street past Stanley Street. Hang a left onto Gorge Street (if you go off to the right you'll be on Henry Street) and Aspen Lodge will be on your right. Look for the big yellow sign.
