Hostelz.com's Review
Magic Bus Kiev is a friendly, good-time hostel decorated in a bright, funky style, but it can be a little small -- there is no living or common room, so people are forced into the kitchen or reception or hallways couch and chairs.

The Location

Located near the southern downtown hub of Lva Tolstogo, you are close to the metro, bars, movies, and restaurants. This is one of the premium areas in Kiev, with hippie kids hanging near the metro exit/McDonald's entrance, the best movie theatre for film festivals and movies in English (The Kiev), and the Western basement bar Beerstub through the arch next door. A cheap, sprawling cafeteria chain -- Puzata Hata -- is around the corner on Chervonoarmieskaya, where free, open-language club meetings are held many evenings and a decent meal can be had for a small price. Up Gorkogo a block is the relaxing attractive Taras Schevchenko Park, with several Art Museums and its incredibly red University (a rich color we haven't seen anywhere else) -- widely regarded as the best in Ukraine, along with Mohyla University.

You can walk to the hostel pretty easily from the train station, but it is a haul -- you are better off hopping on the metro at Vokzalnaya, three stops to Maidan, and then change lines (ask "GIDYA LVA Tolstogo" -- Tolstoy that is), a stop to Lva T, a block south, and then a block west.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The single bedrooms could use more furniture, but the hostel room is fine -- there are several balconies, which are great in summer or for a smoke. Rooms feature reading lights and linen and towels are also included. One problem is one little water heater that is quickly exhausted after a couple of morning showers.

Common Spaces

Common areas are limited. In two days, they couldn't come up with the free tea and coffee. The washing machine is a godsend. They have internet, Wi-Fi, and a book exchange.

Summary

If you want space, go elsewhere, but Magic Bus is a small, friendly, funkily charming joint that's relatively central with low prices. And if you've toured extensively in camper vans/buses, this place may exert a certain magnetism!

5   Place to be I stayed in Magic Bus Kiev this spring and can say its one of the best hostels I ever visited. It's located close to the Kiev center and the metro station is near. My gf and I stayed in the private room that was just huge and had an exit to the balcony and AC (although we did not need it at the moment). The girl working there were very helpful calling a taxi, showing us around, and giving advises on other cities to be seen in Ukraine. I plan to go back to Ukraine in October and would definitely stay at Magic Bus.  , Germany ()
