The Hostelz.com Review
Brisbane Backpackers Resort is widely advertised across Australia and the ads make it sound like the greatest hostel on earth. This is definitely the place to be if you like to party -- everyday. This place has everything -- pool, tennis court, theme nights, a cheap bar, and a different inexpensive buffet every night. It seems to cater to a younger crowd.

The hostel is not far from downtown Brisbane. They run a shuttle every hour into the city. There is also a bus stop around the corner if you prefer public transportation or if you miss the hourly shuttle. They always have plenty of brochures out so you are never at a loss to find things to do.

All rooms are en-suite and have a fridge. Sheets are provided. And there's air conditioning in some rooms. You are not allowed to have your own alcohol in your room.

Overall, the place is pretty clean. The rooms are clean and someone comes in daily to clean up. The kitchen is just ok and not that clean, but it is usable. Be prepared for many people not to clean the pots and pans that they have used. If you are going to self-cater, you will need to put a deposit down for a set of dishes. You will get the deposit back when you return the full set of dishes.

There is a free, secure car park as well. However, if you're driving, make sure you have a good map that lists all of the one-way streets. Otherwise, getting to the hostel will be difficult.

Brisbane Backpackers Resort is a very social and fun place, but it's definitely not quiet.

Great
Been there for over four months in 2006 and loved that place! kitchen sucks, but the rest is amazing -- staff is the best ever, swimming pool, and pub inside. you can live in there many days without get out and have a lot of great fun all night! Not for people who wants just sleep.

This is the worst backpacker I stayed in my whole life. We found a spider in the toilets, the linen was dirty, apparently it has not been changed. The floor was dirty, we found several hairs in the shower (because we booked a private bedroom). The backpackers is not like the picture on the website, when i got there by taxi i did not even recognise the backpacker. Do not go over there. Just don't!

We stayed here for six nights (purely because it was cheaper than other backpackers in Brisbane). The rooms are nice and clean and have a TV but the kitchen is awful. The utensils are melted and dirty and the pots and pans look like they've been through the wars. The teatowels are black with dirt and seriously unhygienic! I think this may be because they sell food and want to encourage you to buy there! Also there are alot of people staying there who are working in the area and they all know each other and party hard. It's very intimidating.

Location is not good if you are looking to sightsee for a few days in Brisbane -- I would stay in a more central location. Location is good if you are just passing through and need to park your car! The en-suite bathroom in the double room we stayed in was smelly. The people staying at the hostel can make you feel quite uncomfortable and it caters for a young party crowd which isn't really my scene. The kitchens are crap.

Smelly, dirty and in the middle of no where. What more needs to be said!

How do I start! Firstly, it's miles out of the center, it does have a free bus but I was in Brisbane 3 days and seemed to spend the whole time waiting for that damn thing. Most of the other hostels are in the city center. Secondly, this place is not very clean. The room was ok but as for the kitchen, showers, toilets — buy some mops and bleach. How hard can it be!! Thirdly, the place had little or no soul, a few clique-y long-term people in a very average bar doesn't count. There is entertainment each night but it's poor! The less said about that the better. Brisbane was very booked up when I was there and the word around the hostel was people were only at this place because they couldn't get into other hostels. Me, I was there because I was stupid enough to buy a package deal in Byron Bay with nights included at this place! No refunds, of course!! The others must be better than this! All in all, not great!!

I stayed here for four nights in December 2004. When I go back to Brisbane I will stay here. It's in a lovely spot, beside the city and South Bank. And the staff are great as well. Fair play to all who work there, you were very helpful and made our stay very relaxing.

Excellent facilities. There's hourly transport into town (it's a nice, scenic walk as well, by a lagoon and across a bridge, if you miss the bus!) This hostel has friendly staff. Be aware that they do not give refunds once you have paid, so choose your nights wisely (their words, not ours!). The rooms are nice but they only have plug-in fans. Air-conditioning or ceiling fans are required.

It's fair to say that the location isn't the best as far as the city is concerned. However, this is the only down point. This area of Brisbane has enough to keep you occupied in its own right. The pool and bar area is cool with plenty going on. The TV room has a huge TV and lots of space. The food is a great value, although the Internet should be cheaper.

I've stayed here every time I've gone to Brisbane and I really enjoyed it. The city center is only a five-minute walk away, but you can get a free bus there and back every hour! The rooms are large and clean!
