Silva House / Casa Da Silva is a genuinely excellent hostel.
The Location
The hostel is situated on the road into town, only about two minutes' walk from the lagoon, around which the small oasis town is centered. It is only a few kilometers from Ica by taxi. There is also a small minimarket on site.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is an excellent selection of rooms -- dormitories with four and six beds, double rooms with either either a double bed or two single beds, and also the option of camping at the rear of the property on a sandy bank. The rooms are very clean and tidy and mostly look out over the swimming pool area.
Common Spaces
There are several common areas, including a bar and restaurant with excellent nightly BBQs and drinks promotions. Behind this, there is a good-sized swimming pool with sun loungers and another bar area with shady tables extending to the camping area where there are further tables and parasols. At the swimming pool area there is also a free pool table, although this has seen better days (or our skills have waned!). There are hammocks around the pool area also.
Summary
Prices are comparable to the other hostels, but the gregarious, hard working staff; the friendly customers; and excellent facilities make this a firm favorite. Prices may be negotiable if you plan to stay more than a few days here. Remember that it can be noisy on weekends and Wednesdays, as there are parties next door and lively nights here at those times.
