Great hostel, nice staff
Friendly, helpful and nice staff, good breakfast. Bathroom on each room (with shower, toilet, and two washbowls). The hostel is very clean and has a small garden. There is also a bar with great beers from Mechelen! (I like the Gouden Carolus Trippel the most.) Only ten minutes walking from the station to the youth hostel. City centre is also on ten minutes walking.

Not advised for relaxing tourism
The hotel itself is in better shape than most of the youth hostels I visited during my travels -- however that can't be said of its staff. They have no enthusiasm whatsoever and lack politeness in every possible meaning of the word. Also if anyone on the staff happens to be in a bad mood they'll go out of their way just to make that clear to you. If you don't plan to spend much time in the hostel or couldn't care less to be treated like trash instead of a human being I can advise you to stay here. However if you like human interaction and a friendly environment make sure to stay away from this hostel.

Clean and hip
I like the design, interior, and the staff here. they are friendly and helpful. It is quite far from central train station (better take bus!). The bed is not bad and I was able to enjoy my sleep. Room is spacious and bathroom is very clean. Breakfast is ok too! It is ten minutes walking distance to the City centre (shopping places and bars). I am really satisfied with this hostel.

What dragged this rating down? The manager of this hostel, when I visited in 2003, was absolutely. Crazy. Her behavior to our group was enough to make us want to forget Mechelen exists. I don't know if she's still around, but if she is -- stay clear.

Terrible hostel. Terrible hosts, terrible smells. It does not cater to students or young people. We literally got thrown out, the lady threw our bags out the door. No deposit returned for swipe keys. Never again.
