The Hostelz.com Review
Small but well-outfitted, this cute hostel is in a great location if you're interested in checking out the Grampians range in western Victoria. It's directly across the road from the National Park Visitor Centre and the Cultural Centre, and just up the road from the starting off points for lots of hikes.
The common area is cozy and has a big TV and a roaring log fire (it can get cold up here!) and the dining room is homey, too. The kitchen isn't huge but it does the job. The dorms are ensuite and the beds are comfortable. And the rooms large enough to accommodate the large numbers of people they hold. Lockers are available in each room.
The place is decorated in a mountain-lodge style with wood floors and big windows. There's Internet (expensive) and a pay phone--which is good because you're away from most other amenities. The front desk is open from afternoon into evening and the staff can take you on spotlighting walks to look at the local animals after dark. The social atmosphere at the hostel depends on how many people are staying, but because it's small and cozy you'll know everyone who's staying there in minutes anyways, and there's often adventure tour bus groups staying the night as well.
You really can't beat the location, and the place is well run to boot.

Great Place!!! We stayed there for a week and it was perfect for us! Quiet a bit out of town, we did not have a vehicle so we walked a lot which is the best thing to do there. I highly recommend venus pools to chill out after a big hike in the mountains. One word of advice for those that have not been to Hals Gap before -- BRING AS MUCH FOOD AND NECESSITIES AS POSSIBLE!, this place is super expensive for everything. The locals are very friendly and there are some meal specials at the local restaurants but it is very expensive. — Ian Henderson , Canada (2010-04-03)

Great! I stayed there a while back with a Groovy Grape group. We only stayed the night but from what I saw it is a lovely place and I would have liked to stay longer. — Cheryl , England (2007-06-06)

A nice hostel. I stayed for a couple of days and felt very relaxed there. There is a shower and toilet in every room. This is awesome unless you get the large dorm with 12 people. All the other rooms are good, though. It has a big kitchen and lounge area, and the guy working there was pretty good-looking, too. — Sarah (2005-02-09)
