Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Great potential -- let down by appalling hospitality Loved the bar by the fire. Accommodation was acceptable considering price -- however -- the hostess (bar manager, not the owner) would give Basil Fawlty a run for his money. Her treatment of guests was truly appalling. Really spoilt the atmosphere unfortunately. — Tired Hiker , Australia (2011-03-07)

Excellent value as you get your own room. The backpacker accommodation at the Derwent Hotel is away from the main building, yet close enough to enjoy the bar, restaurant, and other facilities. The single rooms all have a bed (bring your own sleeping bag), wardrobe, and table, as well as enough room for luggage and sufficient power outlets to recharge mobile devices. I felt most secure here. The only downer for me was that the bathroom is in a separate building. Furthermore it is only a couple of minutes from Lake St Clair, and an easy day trip to Lake Pedder, Gordon Dam, and Mt Field NP, as well as many other attractions. — lifemagician , Australia (2010-03-24)

It was great! Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very nice, with the fire and activity around the bar. We had a excellent time. — sonya , france (2007-04-02)

Stayed at this hotel wiyh my son and daughter late May 2005. Arrived with no cash or credit card after walking the Overland Track. Were welcomed in and got card details from home.Had the best beer and meal for a very long time and what a log fire. Rate very good and breakfast was good quality and value for money. Worth a stop here. Say hello to Andy the Boatman. — Paul Mc Manus (2006-05-06)

In terms of backpacker accommodations, I thought it was pretty good. It's clean, cheap, you get your own room and you're also very close to the bar. — Anonymous (2004-04-13)

I thought it was excellent value for money. The pub was fantastic. I had a great night and the food was really good. — Mark (2004-01-18)
I stayed at Derwent Bridge Wilderness Hotel this time last week. The accommodation was for two adults and two children. I really found the facilities inferior. I would say that the demand for quality accommodation is there, especially in peak seasons and unfortunately the hotel does not offer it in its B & B style accomodation. The whole experience reinforced to me as a potential visitor in future years that it is only a secondary hotel. Please Derwent Bridge Hotel you can do better than that. Lash out and spend a few extra dollars on your future! — Sue (2004-01-10)
