The Hostelz.com Review
Bicheno Backpackers Hostel is an excellent place to stop or stay while you are traveling on the East cost of Tasmania -- it's only half an hour from Wineglass Bay and even the town is nice. You will have to go to the Blowhole, choose the rising tide time for that, and try to see some penguins coming back at night. You can also snorkel, dive, fish, and surf -- if you have more time.

The Location

Bicheno is two hours from Hobart or Launceston, on the east cost, and only a half-hour from Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park. The hostel is at the entrance of town coming from Hobart, just one street on the right from the highway. It is five minutes' walk from shops and beaches. The parking is limited but you can park easily in the street.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are eight-bed dorms, doubles, twins, triples, and private rooms. The dorms are great -- the beds are quite large and comfortable. The linen are provided, there are big lockers under the beds, and there are curtains for the bottom bunks! It's really nice for privacy. The showers and toilets are clean and a little bench and hook in the shower are really useful. The only thing is that there are only two showers, two toilets, and two sinks per bathroom, so it could be busy sometimes. You can hire towels if needed.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is clean and really well equipped -- there is even a oven -- but it can be crowded sometimes. The kitchen is an open space in the lounge/TV room. There are DVD and games available as well.

Summary

This hostel is really great. The couple who owns the place are really nice, friendly, and helpful. They give a lot of tips of what to do in town and help with navigation. The staff are nice, it is all clean, the beds are good. A lot of people stay longer than they thought they would, as you can read in the guestbook!

5  Comfortably delightful We came here after a really long hike in Freycinet and it was the nicest place ever. The staff were super friendly and the hostel itself was clean, comfy, and very homey.  , Australia ()
5  I was immediately filled with warmth and relief upon entering Bicheno Backpackers! Paul was so keen to make me feel right at home, and the facilities were just perfect! By far the best hostel I have ever stayed in!!  ()
5  The seven of us got the sea view side of this hostel and believe me, the views are stunning! We had dinner watching the beautiful sunset on the horizon and it was truly amazing! The hostel is clean, tidy and the staff members friendly and helpful. What more would you want for $20/night? Make sure you request the sea view side!  ()
4  This is a great hostel; really friendly and with helpful management. The kitchens and showers are clean (although the showers were in the other building, next to the one I was staying in) and the room we had was spotless. I would definitely recommend this place, as well as Bicheno in general as a destination.  ()
5  Loved it. Just got back to England thanks and I recommend the hostel to anyone.  ()
