The Hostelz.com Review
Adelaide Travellers Inn Backpackers Hostel is a nice and friendly hostel. You can enjoy your stay in Adelaide with the free bike rental service and free Wi-Fi internet (the hostel is right on the Wi-Fi spot of the city of Adelaide). The atmosphere here is the right mixture of quiet and fun.

The Location

Right outside the door there are two bus stops and the free city loop bus stops there, if you don't want to walk twenty minutes to the centre. The traffic is not heavy although the road is one of the main ones. There are restaurants, supermarkets, and shops just outside of the door and a laundry around the corner. There are also some pubs as well. From the station or the airport the best way to get here is to catch the shuttle bus, which is probably the cheapest in Australia, and it will drop you in front of the door.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are not special but comfortable, mattresses are nice, and there are no in-room lockers. There's not so much room inside but enough to move. Bathrooms and toilets are just fair, especially in the evening they became dirty after the showers of many people. Many rooms have access to the veranda, from where you can get the free Wi-Fi signal.

Common Spaces

Kitchen is just a bit too small and not so clean. There's free breakfast but it's just cornflakes and tea bags. The luggage storage is free of charge, there's a TV room but it's probably too small to host many people -- maybe five or six -- and free cable TV. There are a couple of computers but as mentioned if you have a laptop you can surf using the network of city of Adelaide, which is free. People are nice in general and during the evenings many of them meet on the veranda to sing some songs or just to talk. Sometimes they drink a bit and become loud but it's not a problem every evening, it's really rare.

Summary

This place is not in the city centre but it's social and surrounded anyway. If you consider that you have free bus out of the door and free Wi-Fi (which is not everywhere in Adelaide), the price is really cheap. And the people are friendly and helpful so if you want to both relax and have a bit of fun, it's the right place for you.

Horrid and dirty and rude staff
We stayed in this hostel for one night and will never go back. We booked one room for us, which was supposed to have toilet too. There was someone else in room, and no toilet, but hole in a wall where the toilet used to be. The place looked nothing like in the photos, staff were very rude, and the beds and rooms so dirty that it was horrid. I have been to better hostels in India and elsewhere. The location was ok, but everything else just way below the average. Also we were not even told about breakfast or given towels or anything. The sheets were so old and pillow brown from dirt. Toilets not very nice and no hot water from mens shower. Really save yourself and don't bother.

Smelly, Dirty, and Noisy
The staff were friendly and reservations were easily made. But for $60 (for two people) per night I expected a clean room and working facilities. I was disappointed (the place was smelly and rundown). The room stunk of funky old cigarettes and dirty feet. There were hairs and thick dust on the side table beside the bed. The mattress was so thin I could feel the bed. Cleanliness is not their priority and neither are repairs (for instance, a shower handle was broken in the men's shower). There was no free cheesecake, no free rice, no free coffee, and no free breakfast that we could find during our three-night stay. The other guests were inconsiderate -- a loud party with music, screaming, and bottle clanging was held on the balcony outside our room (it sounded like they were in the bed with us) well into the wee hours of the morning on Sunday. There weren't even any signs suggesting to other guests that they show some respect or limit their noise after a certain hour of the evening. Security simply consisted of a key to let oneself (and any acquaintances) in after 7 p.m. when the desk closed. Speaking of the desk, it supposedly opens at 7a.m. but it wasn't even open by 8:30 a.m. one morning. I don't know what else Adelaide has to offer, but I hope it is better than Adelaide Travellers Inn. It is located on the far side of town --- and a transient slept in the neighboring door stoop (and urinated on the sidewalk) right next door all three nights.

Adelaide Travellers Inn was an excellent hostel because hostel staff smiled at me with a cheerful welcome when I got to the station. (There was pick up and drop off service.) I had cheesecake, rice, breakfast and drinks in the hostel. These were free. Also, I stayed in a clean room and used a quiet shower room .The kitchen was under renovation but I cooked my meals with the new friends I met in the hostel. You will be able to make a lot of friends there. I sometime talked with them on the balcony or in the TV room, and what's more I often used the DVD room. I borrowed many DVDs from the reception. This hostel has good service and equipment. I love it there so much.

Avoid this place like the plague. We only stayed one night but it was one too many. We were greeted by the owner on arrival, who said that he was undertaking renovations, which seemed to just be an excuse for the run down state of the whole hostel. The bathrooms looked like they had not been cleaned in weeks (hair and grime on the floor in the shower). There was no free rice or cheesecake, and a small TV in the dining room. The room smelled and the carpet looked like it had never been cleaned. Stay somewhere else.

They have free apple pie, a Very friendly staff and a good atmosphere. It's not the best hostel I have been to, but it's very good for chilling out and slowly seeing the city. I recommend that you come to Adelaide on a Friday, because that's when the town really comes alive.
