sh*thole this place is awful! but the backpackers were awesome, got smashed till early hours until sandra took our photo's for the naughty book! then up at 6 a.m.! good times, if it were better organised, brand new staff, less greedy, then it would have been brilliant! i do not recommend it at all to anyone. — stuart reilly , scotland (2009-09-08)
Very poor The place is a hellhole. You ring up and they promise work in the next three days but that aint gonna happen! The management have little or no regard for backpackers! Ingrid the women who finds the work is so incompetent and racist -- I quote, We are gonna fill this place up with Asians because theyre much nicer than europeans! Also she makes a judgment on you the first day you arrive if she thinks you cant handle the work then you will not get offered any! The locals hate the place many refusing to drink downstairs! They lost three contracts the time i was there! They took all the money i had left then kicked me out on the streets! This place gives home Hill a bad name! Dont stay here! — Matthew Fitton , England (2009-08-09)

we spent a year in the malpass on and off. we met each other there in october 2004 and still together. we had a ball of a time especially the early 6 a.m. calls from porkie dying of a hangover from the night before. all we did was fruit pick and drink our livers away till nearly 3 a.m. most morning. excellent place to head if you dont mind not saving any money and just pissing it up the wall and working none stop -- oh what fun we had. — chris&pam (2007-01-08)

I had an excellent time here and met some great people — real Aussies! — Sheena (2005-08-07)

had a few good beers here. I met some good people. I found Bill the manager to be a bit of an arsehole. I didn't like the way he treated his staff — he spoke to the girls quite rudely at times. — Jason (2005-04-14)

Ok place. Karl, the new guy running the backpackers, is a complete wanker and sleazebag. — Jo (2005-04-08)

I spent April to July 2003 working at this place and it kicks ass. Alf and Margaret are great hosts and the locals who come into the bar are something else, especially Stevo!!! — Vicki (2005-04-07)

Alf, Porkie and Gary — what a bunch! They made my stay! The work was tough but the experience was good. I miss that place, and the bottle shop and the bar!!! — Dawm (2005-03-09)

I spent about four weeks here in September/October 2004 and it was one of the best times I've had in six months of travelling. Porky was so helpful and I made really good friends. Hello to Aya, Chris, Simon, AJ, Esther, and Tony. Porky really cares for his backpackers!
PS: Don't go swimming in Ayr. You might have to be rescued by lifeguards because the tide is coming. :-) It happened to some of us. — Simone (2005-03-08)

This hotel is so nice. Alfie and the staff (Glenn) are so kind and friendly. I also had a good time with other friends. — Lim (Angela) (2004-11-24)

I had a great time here. Staff were friendly and there was tons of work. It seemed like hell at the time, with the 5 o'clock starts, but now I have fond memories!!! There's not much to do here, but it was great for making cash. — Bruce, U.K 03 (2004-10-19)

Alfie and the staff are wicked. I had a great time there! — Davio (2004-07-04)

Wow - I have never seen such a good and friendly hostel like the Malpass. — Sarah (2004-01-18)
