The Hostelz.com Review
Middle Reef Beach House is a very nice place to stay in Byron Bay. The location on a quiet street is excellent -- less than ten minutes' walk from the bus stop where the Greyhound buses drop you, fifteen minutes from the train station, and less than ten minutes' walk from the main beach and the town centre.

There are two buildings with nice common areas. The owner is very helpful. For instance, if you have a laptop with wireless connection you can use their internet network for free. The atmosphere is friendly, too. It is easy to meet people in the evening and have a drink on the terrace with them.

The rooms are nice and comfortable -- there's a lot of natural light in the bedrooms and some rooms even have a direct access to the balcony. The facilities are very clean and are much nicer than the regular facilities you have in a hostel. There is a barbecue, a nice terrace, and a fully-equipped kitchen stocked with all the things you need.

This hostel is very colourful and makes you feel like you're in a real house. It is the most pleasant place we stayed in as backpackers in Australia so far. Everything in this place is positive and makes you feel at home. It's a very good value for money for trendy Byron Bay. Two thumbs up for this hostel where we really hope to return one day.

5 Highly recommended
We only got to stay at this beautiful place one night. We booked a double room for $100 and it was well worth it. We had our own private veranda and a king bed. The staff were very friendly and the place is immaculate. Very good location as well.

5 Best Hostel in Australia
Stayed here in March 2008 and it was amazing. I arrived by myself late at night but within hours I had made friends with everyone with my apartment and within days we were all close friends. Met people from U.S.A., Switzerland, and Germany and are still good friends with all of them. Close to the main street and beach. Friendly, helpful staff. Fantastic place.

5 Clean and welcoming
This hostel is the best hostel ive stayed in so far! Really clean, recently renovated, a million times better than the pictures shown on this web site. Staff really helpful and friendly. Hostel is cleaned every day and the kitchen is superb even has a dish washer! People staying here were really cool and we even extended our stay from three days to eight, i was sad to leave middle reef and recommend it to anyone, i would certainly go back.

4 Clean and friendly
More an apartment than a hostel, this place is great! The dorms are well sized, the kitchen and living space feels like a home away from home. Huge balcony with BBQ too. Better fridge watching would be a benefit as it was tough to find space. We made some great friends here and would definitely stay here again.

5 Absolutely Wonderful -- A Dream Place to Stay!
Middle reef is by far the best budget accommodation in Byron Bay. Having stayed in other hostels, i've had some exposure to the difference between them. This is unlike any other hostel. The owners have taken three houses, renovated them, and turned them into a guesthouse. This is not like a hostel, full of dorm beds and impersonal. When you stay here, it's like you're staying at home. Within each house, there are couches, TVs, DVD players, kitchens, and showers, just like your place at home. The owners and managers here take great care to provide a safe environment in which to relax, and enjoy the wonders of byron and surrounds. People here are friendly, open, and personable. The atmosphere is comfortable, and the facilities are of high quality. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a home away from home.

5 We stayed at this hostel for four nights and it totally lives up to it's reputation -- it's lovely. We got a bargain because we had a twin room for only $50 a night! ($25 each) We had a self-contained flat (with our own kitchen, TV, bathroom) with the twin and a double room, but for three out of the four nights, we had the place to ourselves. the location is fantastic -- near town, yet it's quiet and we didn't get any late-night drunken noise! The staff were really helpful too, although we didn't see anything of them during our stay, they were always on hand to answer any queries. Stay here. It's a good way to spend your money.

5 Well this hostel has been one of the best we have stayed in over our time in Australia. We stayed for three nites and met the funniest and nicest people. As you are sharing this house with other it was great to sit on the balcony and have a drink. Really really clean and had all facilities close by, i.e. laundry and internet and most importantly the bars. And the twenty-four-hour bakery was a bonus if you eat cookies from ninbin and feel like a munch.

4 Highly recommended for someone looking for a place that's smack in the center of town, but avoids the drunken-frat-party-scene. Here, you'll get a spotlessly clean, quiet dorm room with comfy beds, a homey atmosphere, and friendly staff. Much cheaper than most of the rip-off places in Byron Bay; the dorm bed in a three-bed dorm here was only $25 a night, when the larger places all wanted more than $30. This is a small enough place that you can really get to know people. When I was there, they were cleaning up from a flood, so there were a few problems with mildew and whatnot, but they were doing their best to fix up from it. That's really the only drawback to this fantastic place for those looking for a quiet, cozy place to chill out in Byron Bay.

5 One of the best hostels I've stayed at in Oz. Clean, nice room, and the units are small enough that it's easy to get to know people. It's also really close to town, but on a quiet road.

5 We stayed at this place for three nights this week. I find this place really awesome. I can't complain about the price, it being so close to town, the beach and basically everything. The room was good and had everything we needed. The people who manage it were nice friendly people, as were the people staying there. It's a great place to stay — it made our stay at Byron even better. If ever we head back up to Byron we will be sure to stay there first. Highly recommended!!

5 An excellent, uncrowded, friendly place to stay. The place is made up of three original Byron homes all next door to each other. Great management, and clean fresh linen, all only a few minutes walk to town and the beach. Very nice.

4 This place is a little pricey, but then so are most places in Byron Bay. You do get a very nice place to stay in, with comfortable surroundings at the quiet end of the main town. It was secure and we had no problems with bedbugs. We loved it here, but had major problems tripping over the bad potholes at night since there were no streetlights. Take a torch for the walk at night if you stay here.

5 This hostel has dorms from $25 and is very clean and cozy. There are towels provided. It is in a very excellent location and is very quiet and friendly. I stayed there, not for the first time, several weeks ago.
