The Hostelz.com Review
AWA Hostel Barcelona is a hostel in a residential building, and the hostel owner is very warm and welcoming to guests; they've even got a PlayStation for guest use! It is located very close to the famous tourist street “La Rambla,” so bars, restaurants, and pickpockets are everywhere in the region.
The Location
The hostel is close to La Rambla, and there is quite a lot to see around the region. It is five minutes from the metro station Liceu. But there are no signs outside the building, so it may take a bit longer to get inside. Bars and restaurants are everywhere around the area, but as it is at the very touristy part of the city so do expect them to be a lot more expensive. Also, we found the nearby bars to contribute to a noise problem at the hostel during the night -- the hostel is on the first floor without good sound insulation.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are not equipped with any lockers, there are no door locks in the rooms (so security could be an issue), and there are very few electric plugs for your use. But the beds are nice and comfy. There are two bathrooms in the hostel -- it is spacious and very well-equipped and you will find anything you need there. There are only four rooms in the hostel, so there shouldn't be a line for the bathroom.
Common Spaces
There are two living rooms and a kitchen you can use, which are quite small, but designed to let backpackers meet people. Backpackers there tend to like meeting people, and of course it is very easy to find a place to drink around the hostel. But the hostel users are advised not to use the kitchen so as not to make too much noise, since it is still a residential building.
Summary
This is a nice place for making friends and you will surely not get bored at night and there are lots of places for nightlife in the region. But expect it not to be very quiet for sleep during the night.
