The Hostelz.com Review
This hostel is located in Anna Bay, right in the heart of the bush. It's easily accessible by the Port Stephens coaches, which run from Sydney and Newcastle, stopping right outside the hostel. If arriving by train, there are also connections with the coach service at Newcastle coach/train station. A discount on the Port Stephens coaches is also given to all backpackers staying at Samurai Beach Bungalows, so make sure you inform the driver where you are staying when you get on the bus.

The hostel's atmosphere is extremely relaxed and social, helped greatly by the friendly owners Mark and Sandy. They provide discounted activities in the local area including dolphin cruises, bike hire, and often a bonfire in the evening to meet other guests at the hostel and toast marshmellows!

The hostel has a large outside kitchen which is well-equipped with a BBQ, microwave, and plenty of utensils. There is also a games/TV room where guests can read, play free pool, or just chill out.
The dorm bungalows are spotless with two bunks and a single bed in each room. All linen is provided and there is a clean shared bathroom for each bungalow.

Overall, this small hostel is a great place to relax and explore the surrounding area - not to mention the gorgeous beaches!

A great hostel with a relaxed feel and friendly hosts - I meant to stay only for a few days, but it was so nice I stayed for over a week!

I saw my first wild koala here as it ran past us in the courtyard!

I stayed at Samurai for one night. The couple who own and run the hostel were some of the nicest people I experienced while backpacking Australia. The rooms were clean and so was the bathroom. The kitchen was outdoors which made for an interesting cooking experience. I would recommend that if you're travelling up the eastern coast that you make a stop at Samurai!
