Hostelz.com's Review
Nice Way Sintra Palace is a perfect, homey, and comfortable place to stay in wonderful Sintra. The town itself is a magical place, and it's well worth spending a night or two rather than the usual day trip; this hostel fits right into the magic in a beautiful, older house with winding staircases, wood floors, and a big living room with high ceilings and a fireplace.

The Location

The hostel is located a short, five-minute walk from the old town of Sintra. It is easy to find and there is an abundance of street parking.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel has both dorm and private rooms for a reasonable price (slightly steeper than some in Lisbon, but about right for a place in more upscale Sintra). The rooms are beautiful, and since the house is perched up on a hill, the windows and small balconies show beautiful views of the castles on one side and the ocean on the other. The beds are very comfortable, with nice linens and fluffy comforters. Shutters go over the windows for a great night's sleep. The rooms are also secure, with card keys that unlock the doors and lockers available for use (bring your own lock). There are several types of dorm rooms (the largest dorm holds ten people). There are also private rooms available.

The bathrooms are also great, with excellent water pressure and hot water. One downside is that the shower heads we saw all needed to be held by hand rather than positioned on the wall. The shower areas include little rooms with hooks to hang clothes or towels and change in private.

Common Spaces

The hostel has a large living and dining room area to spend time, with plentiful room for seating, a television, and a warm fireplace in the winter. Also, a huge garden with hammocks and other areas to lay out is an incredible common space. There is even the possibility of archery lessons in the backyard! The kitchen is large, light, well-stocked, and easy to use. Breakfast is included, although it is very light. There is an upstairs computer area available for use free. There are also board games and a suggestion board for activities around Sintra. The hostel is a great place to meet other travelers, with definitely more of a subdued vibe for mature travelers but we preferred this in magical Sintra.

Summary

The Nice Way Sintra Palace is an ideal place to stay and we wish we could have stayed longer. It feels like a home where it is possible to relax and feel so safe and comfortable. The staff goes above and beyond to be sure you know where to go and what to do next. This is an impressive hostel that surely provides a memorable stay.
