The Hostelz.com Review
Nipa Hust Village is not your average hostel. It consists of a series of traditional but comfortable wooden huts in a remote part of Bohol.

The Location

The hostel is located about fifteen minutes' walk from the village of Valladolid, near Loboc. This part of the island of Bohol in particular is in its early years of tourism, which is excellent for those looking or a rural Philippine hideaway in a peaceful setting among friendly locals. It is not so good for those who like an easy-to-reach destination or those with heavy or bulky luggage. The hostel is reached by taking a tricycle from Tagilbaran port or airport to the ICM complex, then catching a jeepney to Valladolid and walking the last stretch or requesting the owners' son meet you for a motorbike ride from the jeepney stop (bumpy and with no safety helmet). There are few amenities anywhere near Nipa Hut Village, so bring your own supplies of snacks and drinks from the supermarket on the ground floor of the ICM. From the hostel it is possible to visit the Chocolate Hills extremely cheaply using the local bus service. There are also Loboc River cruises on offer in the Loboc area.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The complex consists of private two-person huts and a larger dormitory hut, all surrounded by banana plants and coconut trees, with the Loboc River running straight past. Beds are comfortable, clean, and come with their own mosquito net. Due to the nature of the huts, however, it is not possible to keep nature out of the room -- lizards, large spiders, and an array of insects appear every night and are an unavoidable part of the experience. There are no individual lockers, although the complex is staffed the entire time and the area very safe and quiet. Bathrooms contain a western-style toilet (but non-flushing), although no showers. Guests must wash from a bucket. Facilities here are basic but not too unpleasant on the whole.

Common Spaces

The only common areas are on the verandas of the huts and the general area of the complex itself. Both the hut village owners and fellow guests are generally extremely friendly, although sometimes it can get very quiet (this is noticeable in the rainy season).

Summary

Accommodation at Nipa Hut Village is unusual, quaint, and peaceful, but not for those who don't want to get back to basics and among nature.
