Hostelz.com's Review
Sayta Hostal is an adequate budget hostel with all the facilities that you would need for a comfortable stay in Colombia's capital.

The Location

As with a plethora of other lodgings, Sayta Hostal is conveniently located in La Candelaria district of Bogotá. It is ten minutes' walk up the hill from all the major tourist sights and the TransMilenio bus service that can transport you anywhere throughout the city.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are small but cosy, with wooden bunk beds and comfortable mattresses. The hostel has also provided some thick covers to keep out that often bitter Bogotá cold. The windows have wooden shutters that are closed at night, meaning the early morning sun does not disrupt a good night's sleep. Small lockers are available downstairs but are only suitable to secure small items such as your passport or camera. Unfortunately they are not big enough even for a netbook, although the friendly staff will be more than happy to keep this behind reception for you.

The bathrooms are clean but the showers are a little temperamental. Switch on the hot water and it is almost scaldingly hot, so put in a bit of cold to neutralise it though and enjoy it while you can. In around five minutes, it will be bitterly cold.

Common Spaces

There are two common areas in the hostel. The first is in front of reception where you will find a table around which travelers eat dinner and chat. Here is a television -- although the staff are generally watching their telenovelas on this in their down time. Alongside is the kitchen that is adequately stocked with pots and pans to allow you to cook something simple. Upstairs at the back of the hostel is a comfortable area with a number of cushions that is a small but nice chill out spot.

Summary

Although a little bit further up the steep hill than most of the other hostels in La Candelaria, Sayta Hostal is good value for money in comparison to its rivals. The staff are very friendly and create a welcoming, homey feel. This fact, along with hot showers (if you are going to be quick) and comfortable beds make this hostel a more than viable option to spend a couple of days in Bogotá.

5   Friendly, clean, quirky and central, what more could you want. In the heart of Calendria so totally safe to wander around, and in walking distance of lots of nice restaurants, cafes and bars and the Gold museum and the Botera museum which were both worth a visit. Kind of like staying with a slightly crazy Spanish aunt. Everyone was really friendly, the kitchen was great and well stocked, and a little space upstairs to do yoga. Only downside were the shared bathroom, with only 1 hot shower for the hostel, it could get a little in demand, and not a massive quantity of hot water, but when they'll happily chat and make you tea while you wait, who could complain.  , UK / US ()
