The Hostelz.com Review
A party hostel Adelaide Backpackers Inn is not, but it is a relaxing, comfortable, and very clean place to stay, with everything you need and chock-full of freebies. The live-in owners/managers keep the place spotless and provide a very warm welcome and high standard of hospitality. If you are tired of being nickel-and-dimed at every turn (and let's face it, most backpackers are at some point), this place will be a welcome respite. These are the kind of people who remind you that you get your seventh night free, even when you're in the process of trying to pay them for it. The kind of people who not only pick you up at the airport/train station, but also let your non-paying-guest travel partner come along and use the facilities for the day until she has to catch her flight. In other words, these are some of the rare people in the hostel business who truly know the meaning of the word hospitality.

The freebies at this hostel are great -- a fully stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need, and it's clean. Not only free rice, but free oils, sauces, spices, and cling wrap -- anyone who has ever tried to cook anything besides two-minute noodles while traveling knows what a luxury this is. And the clincher for most people -- free hot apple pie and ice cream, every night at 8:15 -- sometimes even enough for seconds or thirds!

There are ample common areas, including a large outdoor patio area and a TV room with a good movie collection (and if you like "The Simpsons" you're in luck)! The rooms are basic but clean and spacious, and there is a much larger bathroom/toilet to guest ratio than most hostels have. It is well located on quiet Carrington Street, only a few blocks from the transport hub of Victoria Square, and the Central Markets (great for good, cheap food). The only complaint here is that they have the same flimsy foam mattresses that seem to be the norm in hostels across Australia, but since they're almost all like that, this hostel has a lot going for it.

Homey
I must admit at first i was not impressed with adelaide as a city but this hostel created a very homely atmosphere that you do not get in the bigger city hostels. The staff were incredibly welcoming and very helpful and easy to talk to. I got to know a lot of the other travelers staying with me and we would all sit down in the evenings at watch TV, which was awesome. The kitchen wasn't flash but the free apple pie and ice cream, as well as tea, coffee, and free breakfast, certainly made up for it so all in all i would recommend this hostel as a long or short term place to stay. It is a good forty-minute walk to rundle street, the centre of adelaide so i advise getting the free city tram one block down from the hostel into town. Thanks Adelaide backpackers inn for a lovely stay.

One of the greatest hostels in the world!
I loved this place. I only stayed here one night but they have the friendliest staff imaginable. I arrived by train from Melbourne in the morning and they picked me up, took my bags, and dropped me off at the airport so I could catch my flight to Kangaroo Island. I got back really late as the bus back from Kangaroo Island was running a few hours late and the same guy who picked me up in the morning was waiting for me. Apologized that I missed the pie and ice cream, and showed me to my room where he had put my backpack next to one of the beds.

I was here for three months, still here at the moment. The hostel is clean and the staff helpful, although if you get on the wrong side of one person he will certainly moan about you. Hostel is cheap, has lots of extras, and attracts fun people.

Just excellent. A lot of extras, like hot apple pie and ice cream every day, rice and tea all day long, and pick ups to and from the train and even the airport. A very cute old grandpa preparing the "pie time" at eight p.m. and all the other staff is very friendly, too. Good location as well!!

This was the nicest place I stayed in whilst in Australia. I stayed in a single room which was very comfortable and clean. Everyone was very friendly and they offered free pickup and drop off at the train station. Free tea, rice, and apple pie & ice cream every day was a bonus. The hostel is just around the corner from the city centre and market. It's definitely the place to stay whilst in Adelaide!

A great place--my first hostel in Australia. The dorm room was small, but the people and friendly staff made up for it. Then there was the apple pie... Eat your dinner at 5ish so you have room for the 8.15 helpings! It was ideally located and guaranteed to be multinational - only a handful of us Brits, which made it even better. They had free rice (handy!), and great cooked dinners every now and again for 6-7 bucks. Stay HERE!!!

I loved it. All the young people told us what to do and where to go while we weren't actually at the Festival of the Arts. Sooooo helpful. Not the best beds on earth but I was usually too tired to care.
