The building is in fair condition, and the rooms are rather tired. Bathrooms are ensuite and most dorms have a balcony and are air conditioned. The hostel has a swimming pool, bar and common area, where music videos are played throughout the day.
One drawback is the resident turkey, which constantly pesters the backpackers eating food and excretes onto the pool table from its favourite perching spot above the TV. I stayed at Travellers over the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and thought that we should eat the turkey in honour the holiday tradition (even though I'm not American).
Compared to some of the other hostels on Magnetic Island, Travellers is quiet and reserved. It is also a good distance from the island's main supermarket (40 minute walk). There is however, a small general store nearby, along with payphones and a few eateries. The neighbouring bar also serves food throughout the day and into the evening.
To get to the hostel it is a $4 bus ride from the ferry terminal, and the bus will drop you off right at its doorstep. As it turns out, Travellers is not the best place to watch the Rugby World Cup final.
