The Bellview is in a great location, right on the Esplanade. It's just a short walk to the Reef Terminal for the boat trips out to the Barrier Reef and Fitzroy and Green Islands. The hostel is also very near the lagoon for a swim or to listen to the free bands.
There are a number of bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. The hostel is very quiet even though it is on the main street. The rooms are set back around a pool and courtyard so you do not hear noise from the street. The atmosphere is actually quite subdued as the staff do their best to keep it quiet in the common areas at night for the convenience of their guests, even to the point of being fairly strict.
A kitchen and laundry room are available for the guests and there is a large TV lounge and a pool in the middle of the courtyard. The hostel is laid out very nicely with a lot of space.
Motel rooms are available as well as dorms and budget doubles/twins. The budget rooms are spacious and clean with a sink, but could do with a little modernization as they are quite small.
