The Hostelz.com Review
Globetrekkers is a small friendly hostel located in New Farm, an easy 15 minutes walk to Brisbane City centre. The hostel's atmosphere is very social with guests mixing in the living room and outside patio.
The dorm rooms are slightly on the small side, however they are spotlessly clean with comfy modern bunk beds and furnishings. The hostel has a small swimming pool, internet access, laundry, book exchange, and a TV room. There are a few bathrooms scattered around the hostel and in some rooms, which again are very clean.

The kitchen is very well equipped, however it can become a bit crowded in the evenings. Down the road from the hotel however are a number of great bars and restaurants, including the "Flamin Grill" which offers great cheap food. As the hostel is situated in a residential area, "quiet time" has to be strictly observed after 10pm, however there are no curfews.

Overall, this is a great friendly hostel, with a very home-like feel. It is probably better suited to those seeking a quiet, sociable time in Brisbane, ideal for those staying a bit longer and possibly working in the city. Its small size allows guests a chance to meet new people and relax in one of Australia's best cities.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
5  I first heard about Globetrekkers from a guy in Airlie beach. We were talking about the best hostels that we have stayed in and when I mentioned that I was going down to Brisbane he highly recommended a hostel called Globetrekkers. The one thing that he kept saying was that it was like a family there and that everyone was extremely nice and friendly. There was six of us so we traveled down to Brisbane and we booked into Globetrekkers on a Saturday night. It was a great night to arrive as the river festival was on and there was a large fireworks display on Storey bridge. All of my friends had to leave Brisbane as they had connecting flights so I was alone in the hostel. The first night that they left I was invited to dinner by a group of people staying here. I was quite surprised that they were all so friendly and recommended all of the best places to find work and that they were truly helpful. Over the course of my stay here I found that there is a lot of people who stay here for a long period and that there is a strong sense of family atmosphere in the hostel. It really does feel like a home away from home. The hostel is quite small in terms of the amount of people staying here and that to me is one of the main reasons why I stayed here so long. Because it is so small you are able to get to know people a lot better and it helps with the atmosphere. The hostel is in a ideal location in that you are extremely close to the valley for nights out and it is only a fifteen-minute walk to the Central Business District where most of the office work is. In my opinion it is the atmosphere that really makes the place as most of the people whoa re staying here stay for a long time and it helps you to build relationships with people. Some of my friends where traveling behind me and I told them to stay in this hostel but they were quite adamant that they would be getting an apartment. They are still here now as they feel Globetrekkers is a good place to meet people and the location is perfect for them. made some very good friends here and have arranged for a road trip in Europe when we all meet up. One of the best nights that I have had in Oz would be the Halloween night when we had a party in the hostel and everyone made an effort to dress up for the occasion. Another major aspect of the hostel is that it has Foxtel which is essential for watching all the football games as well as all the sports. It will feel really strange to leave the hostel as it will be like leaving a family as it really is the atmosphere that makes this place such an enjoyable one to stay. Will feel quite sad when I leave the place as it has been one of the best hostels I have stayed in Australia. The price of accommodation is quite reasonable as a dorm room for a week only costs $120. The hostel is also extremely quiet during the week which is good if you are working a nine to five job. At the weekend most of the hostel goes out together for dinner or for karaoke on a Thursday night in the Brunswick hotel. Overall one of the best hostels i have stayed in for atmosphere and the people i have met.  ()
4  I was originally staying at another hotel and decided to enjoy the nightlife. I met some people and they were staying here at Globetrekkers. Some of them for months. So I decided to save some cash and check in. The best decision I could have made. The people were great and offered me a drink as soon as I got there. I have hence decided never again to stay in a hotel. Everyone here are friends and there are little to no problems between them. The management that was taking over has done a beautiful job cleaning up and trying to fix any problems that have come up. I definitely endorse this hostel. I can only hope my stay at the next hostel will be as great.  ()
1  This is the worst hostel we've every stayed in. Filthy! Disgusting! Horrible! Can't stress enough DON'T GO! We also were in the garage area - more like a dungeon! Our bedclothes were ripped (used our own bedding instead). Room had two doors, one of which led out into the lane. This had only a latch lock which even a 5 year old could open up with a thick bit of card or credit card. Took my husband 10 seconds to get into our room from this end! When we politely highlighted the situation to the manageress she suggested that we put our bed up against the door to make it safer! p.s. She was drunk as a skunk on our arrival and could hardly string to words together - must be the stress of the job!  ()
1  This hostel has changed hands since these reviews were written. We booked this hostel for a week on the strength of these reviews and I don't want anybody else to make the same mistake we did. This hostel was the worst place we stayed on our entire trip, and having backpacked for two months through Asia we have stayed in some truly awful places. After reading these reviews we expected a clean, well maintained, family run place. Nothing can prepare you for what it's actually like. The kitchen is absolutely filthy and crawling with ants -- my fiance washed up and by the time he'd finished his t-shirt was covered in them. The pots and pans are so dirty that if you run your fingers over them they come up black. Our room was in the garage -- dirty, paper thin walls, and we had to climb over an assault course of bikes, dirty washing, and furniture to get to the door. I woke up absolutely covered in bed bug bites after one night there. Unsurprising, since we saw bed sheets just thrown on the floor outside before being washed (and probably after, too). The swimming pool is a paddling pool, there is dirt and rubbish everywhere -- it is absolutely disgusting. We had handed over our money for a week as they offered a discounted rate for weekly bookings, and we had a fight on our hands to get it back. The manager, Chico, refused to come to the premises and speak to us, instead communicating through phonecalls with the girl on reception. After two hours we finally spoke to the manager and I was accused of making the bites up (!) and told we couldn't have our money back. Only when we threatened to show the photos we'd taken of my bites and of the filthy conditions to health and safety did he finally relent and give us our money back, minus the night we had stayed. We weren't the only ones who were disgusted by this hostel. We spoke to a number of other guests on that morning who had done the same thing as us -- booked a week based on these and other reviews (that I can only assume were written pre - Chico) and then been refused their money back, and so felt they had to stick it out for a week. Not one single person was actually happy there. Please please please don't stay here. There is not a single redeeming feature about this hostel, hopefully it will soon be shut down so no one else will have to experience how awful it is.  ()
5  Hello Rose Anne, Graziano and Crew, the time has come, I have to say goodbye. I really enjoyed my time at Globetrekkers. I just planned a three-day stay, finally I stayed nearly eight weeks. I can't say any bad things, it is great with very nice and helpful people!!! It is so close to everything, the valley (best clubs and pubs in OZ) and the city is not far as well. Anyway, thank you for everything!!!  ()
5  Globetrekkers is the best hostel I stayed in so far. The owners really make you feel welcome. It's small, friendly and clean and it's easy to explore Brisbane with this hostel as your base.  ()
4  I really enjoyed my stay here. It was a fantastic value at $50 for a double en suite room. The room was clean, spacious and had proper wooden furniture and polished floorboards — lovely. The kitchen was pretty small but tidy and there are numerous communal areas for eating/lounging. The owner was super friendly and helpful and the location was handy for going out in The Valley. The one downside to this place is it's lack of air-conditioning — in January Brisbane was pretty hot and the fan just didn't quite cut it. Still, overall it's a great place to stay and very good value for money.  ()
4  This hostel is a great antidote to the conveyor-belt "get their money then get 'em out" style of hostel. It's small, friendly and personable.  ()
5  I stayed here for a few months while I had to be in Brisbane (which is a great city) and Globetrekkers is a relaxed, homely, clean and fun place for backpackers. And it's in a good location to explore the city and it's close surroundings: nightlife in the Valley, shopping, National Parks, surfing, mountains, and beautiful islands. And even the Outback is nearby.  ()
5  I have spent many weeks (sometimes months) many times at Globetrekkers. I just keep going back. Every time I feel like I've come home. All the warmth that I expect from family is always there to greet me. I am going to miss it when I finally have to leave for good.  ()
5  I stayed at the Globetrekkers Hostel for five weeks, and loved every minute of it. It's the best hostel I stayed at in Australia. It's very friendly and laid-back.  ()
5  Wonderful place in a peaceful yet central suburb. The owners are genuinley welcoming and the standard of accommodation is fantastic for the price :-)  ()
