The Hostelz.com Review
The Flaming Kiwi Backpackers is a nice oasis away from the buzz of Queenstown's activities.

The Location

Based about two minutes' walk away from Queenstown's centre and bus station, this hostel is ideally located for whatever you want to do with your stay, but at the same time, it is based on a quiet street near to a suburban neighbourhood and supermarket. Needless to say, the neighboorhood is very safe. Adequate parking is also available.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms vary in size and there are also options for private rooms. The rooms, which are very secure with room for your luggage, are clean, airy, and well serviced. The bathrooms are of a high standard with readily available hot water for your shower as well as space to change and hooks for your clothes. One downside is that there is only one toilet on the top floor, so this can get quite busy.

Common Spaces

Two medium-sized kitchens, a diner, and a lounge/TV room make up the common rooms. The kitchens and diner are ideally clean and well equipped for self-catering. One word of advice -- be sure to note that the kitchen is closed from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. We were not told of this on arrival and turned up to get breakfast for a day trip only to find out then. The notice is on a tiny poster that is obscured during the day when the doors are open.

The TV room comes complete with DVDs, books, and games. There is also a free desktop computer for internet use and Wi-Fi is also available for laptops. A landline telephone is available for free for short local calls. Outside, you will find seating and a spa. The hostel on the whole is a friendly place to be, but not so social that you won't be able to sleep -- far from it. It is quiet and relaxed.

Summary

This hostel is not flash enough for flashpackers or loud enough for party animals, but certainly provides a clean, warm, and friendly place to stay for as long as necessary.
