Not as bad as everyone makes out! I stayed here for three and a half months! It wasn't as bad as people are Saying. The owner, Chops, was a handful but he has left now and all in all it was a really good, clean place to stay. Maria cooks for $6 a night and it's always good! If you're willing to work hard and put the effort in it's worth it, i used to make over 200 a day normally. Work hard and play hard in this hostel. I would recommend it as long as you can take a joke and don't take things too seriously. — Jess , England (2007-10-08) Sh*t To start off with this was a great place to stay, but after about two weeks our opinion quickly changed. They do not find you work but they send you down to Chops at the other crappy backpackers. We were treated unfairly and where automatically disliked because we were backpackers. The man who owned 'Top of Town' was mean and kicked everyone out when he didn't like them. We were two of these people, he told us at 6 p.m. one night to be out by 10 the next morning because he was in a bad mood (drunk). We will never stay there ever again. The worst experience we had in Australia! They are horrible people and should not be allowed to own a place that has anything to do with customer service. The staff was unfriendly and dishonest. They kept on promising work when there wasn't any, costing us a lot of money. The kitchen was crawling with disgusting insects and there wasn't a thing to do. I stayed in a few of the backpackers in Stanthorpe but found this one had:
A) The best work available
B) The nicest staff (some of the others are really nuts around there!)
Also, it's in a big park so noise really wasn't a problem. We would all just go up to the top kitchen and we were always left alone! I spent around three months in the area, two of which were spent at this hostel! Strongly recommended! Keep up the good work, guys! — Fabien (2005-10-22) I had no problems with this hostel. It provided all the work I could handle, and the living areas were always cleans and tidy. However the staff sometimes left a lot to be desired. Many times they would yell at the backpackers and kick them out (calling the cops) for making too much noise when all they were doing was sitting outside on the ground (there's no community area) and talking. Also it's about two kilometers out of town, so you have long walk to get groceries or get to the bar; there's no courtesy bus. Long story short, it will get you work, it's very clean, but it's not a place where you can have a good time after work. Work and sleep, that's all you really do. — Anonymous (2005-03-28)
