The Hostelz.com Review
The Travellers Haven offers twenty-four-hour pickup. Or it does depending on who you speak to. Although it's not far from the greyhound drop-off point (tourist info point), it does drop at six a.m. (from Tennant Creek). We were told by the manageress that this was a bit early, so perhaps we should call if we "really" wanted a pickup. She also hoped the night manager would be awake to take the call. Imagine our surprise (and his), when we found him sitting outside the hostel asking us why we walked! The night manager is up early everyday for the Greyhounders. So don't worry.
The hostel is clean and largish with all necessary amenities. The single-dorms are very inexpensive. We were actually given double rooms as they'd run out of singles for the same price. However, you'll need your sleepsheet -- a top sheet or blanket does not come free. Although it's only a minimal fee, we thought this a little cheeky. Rooms are clean and some have a refrigerator.
There is a spacious kitchen, dining area, and lounge with TV. Again, all clean and tidy. There does appear to be a good few more permanent people here, who seem to work at the mine. All are friendly and chatty. The bathrooms are well looked-after and clean. Outside, there is a well-maintained pool, nice for the hot days. There is a the usual array of laundry facilities and internet access.
Shops are a ten- to fifteen-minute walk away with Woolworths and K-Mart being the dominant supermarkets in Mount Isa. It's a nice, clean, quiet hostel -- living up to its name. Whether you want to stay in Mount Isa (which is primarily a mining town) -- that's another ballgame!

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
Poor monopoly dated, dodgy, staff, management, key deposit may be held $10, in case of late check out, more so if they dont care for you, charming. it is used as a half way house by community members, no offense intended. just be aware. doubtfully pick up, drop off, depending on the hour, and there moods. read cash cow. — bruce , australian (2009-11-14)

This hostel looks old-fashioned but is actually quite nice. Rooms are large, the kitchen is clean and the TV room is often deserted. The atmosphere is quiet as a few people who stay here work in the mines, etc. The pool is welcome after the oppressive heat. It's not the best place for meeting people but hey, you're in the Outback. What do you expect, Piccadilly Circus?! — Samson (2005-01-20)
