The Hostelz.com Review
Located twenty kilometers outside the city center, Moreton Bay Lodge is isolated from all the craziness of the city – in a good way. Because of the great weekly rates, many people show up here for a couple of days and end up staying a couple of weeks or months. Because of this, and the hostel's small size (only six rooms), when a new traveler arrives, everyone immediately notices and takes interest.
The location is right on Moreton Bay, across the street from the supermarket and Manly Pub. Free sailing trips of Wednesdays are a five-minute walk from the hostel, and a short twenty-minute walk on the path along the coast gets you into the larger neighbor suburb of Wynnum. Free shuttles go into the city about three times a day, but the train station is only a six- or seven-minute walk up the hill.
The rooms are very open and spacious, the kitchen is large and clean, events are always put on by the staff, and the atmosphere is like a large family that likes to party. All in all, it's a cheap, spacious, fun, and inviting place to stay for however long you might get stuck there.

Too far away, not clean, poor kitchen. The hostel description does not mention enough just how far away it is from the CBD. It's forty minutes by train, then a 10 minute walk from there. THERE IS NO FREESHUTTLE BUS INTO THE CITY. The train costs 6 dollars for an adult if you pay for each ticket separately, so whatever money you save going with Manly you pay in train tickets. It was very noisy one of our nights, with a loud party/karaoke in the parking lot. The kitchen is also poorly equipped -- there are pretty much no bowls or cups, the cutlery is falling apart, and it's all just a mess. Not entirely clean either. It was definitely more a place for long term backpackers as opposed to temporary stays, so that may have added to our discomfort. Otherwise, the owners are friendly, but that can only make up for so much. — Colin , USA (2011-08-05)

Loved it! Great place to stay! the new owners are lovely. when we arrived we hadnt booked the room properly, instead of sending us away they gave us the managers room for the night, at no extra cost! the managers brother who was staying there at the time said he couldnt let a six-month pregnant woman sleep on the floor, when he had a bed! we were very grateful! only downside is friday and saturday nights, there is a pub the opposite side of the road, if you're staying roadside you will hear it! try to get the room on the other side. Far away from the city but right next to the beach. $5 meals cooked by a bloody good cook! room cleaned every time someone checked out, which is better than some more expensive places we have stayed in. had a really great time and would come again! — dylan and kristi , english (2009-08-22)
