The Hostelz.com Review
One of the cheapest hostels in town, Annie's is also one of the best. You won't miss it with its brightly-coloured walls, which emphasise the friendly atmosphere within. The location's great. The staff here really go out of the way to make your stay perfect.

The dorms are arranged in a motel-style layout, with many opening out onto the swimming pool area. Each has its own en-suite bathroom and decent-sized TV! The standards of cleanliness and general condition of facilities are excellent. There is an internet room (best rates in town, even cheaper if you use it during the daytime), a well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and a bar/restaurant. The restaurant is fantastic and hostel guests can choose anything off the menu for a special price (currently $5), no matter what it normally costs. (Kangaroo curry is particularly popular!)

Heading out to Uluru? Annie's have their own tour company "Mulga's Adventures" which offers a fantastic highly-recommended camping tour. There are daily departures and the trip is probably the cheapest available (all of them do the same things, stay at the same places etc.). Free luggage storage is available while you're gone, and this is available even if you are going with another tour company.

Unusually, Annie's even offers a free lift to the airport, train, or bus station when you leave. Many hostels offer free pick-ups to get you to stay in their hostel but couldn't care less what happens when you leave. But Annie's really go out of their way to give you a great experience. Because of this, the laid-back and friendly atmosphere at the hostel is really something special not to be missed!

Probably the best hostel I've stayed in in Australia
I wanna be honest, the rooms aren't amazing, they're fine with a TV and a shower for each room. But what's really great about this hostel is the staff and atmosphere in it. They make you feel welcome, and make sure there's a fun atmosphere. The bar downstairs offers $5 meal specials (great, big meals too), the beer is cheap, there's free breakfast (although you have to wake up very early for it). The Mulga tour is crazy fun, with great guides (I've been on one and met another guide too), and is the cheapest in town. Their competition say it's because they sleep on Aboriginal land, but I don't know how true is that, and anyway, they didn't seem to do anything off on the tour. The place is always busy, fun and the bar is great. Some of the coolest people I've met in Oz were in Annie's. Make sure you give them a call because they pick you up from the airport or the bus station for free. Oh, one more thing. They'll try to get you to book a room at Annie's in Adelaide. Don't. It's not the same as it's in Alice and not nearly as fun.

Bright, cheerful, very polite staff
Annie's Place is probably one of the better hostels we have stayed in. The staff are really friendly and polite, and the rooms have decent thick mattresses, but the pillows have seen better days. Every room has a TV which is a nice luxury and we found it very clean everywhere. The bar and restaurant was great, with decent meals for $5, you can't go wrong really. We did the three-day $250 Mulga's tour and it was amazing and so cheap compared to other companies. All in all we had a wicked time.

The hostel in Alice Springs! Nice, air-conditioned rooms, big pool, extremely friendly and helpful staff, and not far from the centre. And the best is yet to come -- their Ayer's Rock tour! It's great value for money, very well organized, and great fun. A special thanks to Shelly for organizing and booking everything for me! My stay was perfect in every respect!

Annie's was a good hostel. The light fittings and plugs often don't work, and the lift to the airport is no longer free, it's $5. They do pick you up for free though. Other than those small complaints, I had a good time at Annie's Place. The pool and the cheap meals are good and I met some good people there. I went on the three-day tour to Ayer's Rock and King's Canyon, which was good value.

Just stayed a week at Annie's and had a great time! This place has a great vibe, the staff is great, and is just comfortable and fun. The pool area is nice, and their cafe has good food for only $5. They actually have real mattresses and the rooms are all air-conditioned (you will need it in Alice Springs, trust me)! Do yourself a favor and go on their tour (Mulga's three-day adventures) -- it's not as rough as it sounds, it's lots of fun, and it's by far the best deal in the red centre -- all the tours go to the same places but this one's the cheapest and most fun!

Cheap, clean and friendly, Annie's is a good option in Alice Springs. I didn't go on their tour but it was no big deal. The bar serves good meals for five bucks, and there's a swimming pool on-site. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Downsides include the bit of a walk to the city centre, which can be a problem since Alice is not the safest place to walk around as a solo female at night. Also, reception and internet close at eight p.m., which can be inconvenient for people coming in from tours that arrive later. Aside from that, I'd recommend Annie's.

A few things annoy me about Annie's. Firstly, the website states that dorms are four to six people, with a couple eight-bed for larger groups. So when I booked in to find myself in a ten bed dorm, I was a little annoyed. I found the bathroom was a little scummy and the bath was for hobbits. Secondly, it's not a ten minute walk to town. More like fifteen to twenty-minute walk. Supermarkets are not close. Also if you're not doing their tours, they're not interested in you -- I got that feeling as well. I'm using Greyhound to get to Uluru, once they found this out, they didn't bother telling me anything about the area or the hostel -- unlike the other backpacker who was doing their $300 tour right in front of me. Gripes aside -- it's pleasant enough, rooms are okay, bar is good, net access cheap in the day.

This is a good place to stay if you are in alice. You get free pick up and drop off which is good and also free brekkie. There is a pool which is really nice when the temp is so high. The hostel is quite average but the restaraunt next door is really cheap and you get a good meal for 5 dollars. The tour they do is excellent and beej our tour guide could'nt have been better. He made the experience so much better and I have fond memories.

I stayed at Annie's for almost a week. I saw (and heard the early morning starts!) the procession of backpackers heading out on their tours. They all said they had had a good time. There was no pressure on me to go on the tour.

I recommend this hostel and their tour to everyone I meet! It just had such a cool, relaxed vibe and the rooms were really nice, en suite and all with TVs, and so cheap compared to the rest of Oz. Really cheap and good bar meals, very friendly staff. The tour was brilliant, and our guide Shawn was awesome. I met so many friends on the tour. If I had more money I'd go back!

We stayed here for three nights in July, and found it to be a very good hostel. We didn't do their Mulga tour but found that that was not a problem at all, and they were very helpful in booking us places on a tour in Darwin for after we left the hostel. We stayed in a six-share dorm that had an en suite bathroom. It was nice to have a shower and toilet in the room, the ventilation was ok, but it was quite dirty. The room and sheets were also fairly dirty, but it could be overlooked because we were rarely hanging out in the dorm room. Plus, it was only being cleaned by other backpackers, who seemed quite unenthusiastic about their jobs. The shared kitchen was ok, but quite dirty and gross. We didn't cook there, but just took advantage of the free toast for breakfast. The restaurant/bar was absolutely fantastic — it had an excellent atmosphere, and $5 meals for those staying in the hostel. For $5, you actually got quite a lot — an entire plate of food plus chips and salad. Overall, the hostel was not really social, but that could have been due to the cold weather. The staff were friendly and helpful but a bit strange. The free transfers to and from the train station were excellent. Annie's Place is definitely the place to stay in the Alice.

I thought Annie's Place was excellent. I stayed there during May 2005, and did their three-day tour, with two nights bush camping. That trip, and indeed my time in Alice, holds really good memories for me. Our tour group was a really good laugh, and the guide, Deano, is the man. Not only does he have a good taste in music, but he's also a dab hand at hunting Witchety Grubs!!! You've got to go to Annie's Place — 5 dollar dinners, a cheap bar and a wicked atmosphere!!!

I stayed in Annie's Place in March, and it was amazing. The hostel is really clean, the rooms are spacious and en suites, the meals are cheap and good, and we did the tour. And now I just tell everyone to do it!! This tour is just perfect!! You sleep in swags, and the guide (Will) was really nice. We had good fun. Just go there!!!
