The Hostelz.com Review
Global Village hostel has an ideal location in the Queen’s University area of Belfast, within easy reach of the city centre and surrounded by ample opportunities for nightlife. Despite this, the street is relatively quiet and traffic noise is not a problem. The hostel itself is in a beautifully converted Victorian house and has a small outdoor area.

The Location

Global Village Backpackers hostel is located in the Queen’s University district of Belfast, with its myriad of pubs, cafes, and restaurants, and within a short walk of the city centre. Botanic train station is just a few blocks away, and the Europa bus station is a little farther but also within walking distance.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms have locks on the door (each resident gets a set of keys, for the dorm room and front doors), but do not have in-room lockers. There are no storage shelves or other areas (other than the floor) for personal belongings, but floorspace is adequate (if a bit cramped). Size of dorm rooms varies from four to eight beds (with the usual bunk beds), and private rooms are also available.

There is a large communal unisex bathroom on the ground floor with separate toilet and shower cubicles. Shower cubicles have ample places to hang your clothing and other gear. There are private (individual) bathrooms with toilet/shower on an upper floor, but there are no ensuite bathrooms.

Common Spaces

The ground floor has two large common spaces, with the kitchen area sharing space in one room with a games area (including pool table). The kitchen is well-equipped and has a couple of tables for eating. The other large common room comprises the reception desk and a TV/seating area with comfy squashy couches and a fireplace. DVDs are available to view, but there is no book exchange.

There is no dedicated luggage storage but staff will let you keep your bags there after checkout, if you’re catching a later bus or train. There is free Wi-Fi available at the hostel and one computer (in the kitchen/game room) with free internet access.

The hostel is very sociable, filled with students from the nearby university as well as backpackers. The resident dog will also make you feel welcome (when he isn’t checking out your bag for treats). There is no smoking in the hostel.

Summary

A prime location and the friendliness of staff/clientele make this hostel an ideal location to base yourself while you’re exploring Belfast.

5  Great hostel We arrived very early. But that was no problem at all. We were able to leave our stuff with the receptionist and than start our tour through Belfast. The receptionist was very friendly, he answered all our questions. After we came back, he gave us a tour through the hostel. The room was very nice, it was clean and modern. The bathroom as well. The breakfast next morning was ok. We had toasts, cereals coffee, tea, jam -- a standard hostel breakfast. All in all I would recommend everyone of my friends, if they ever go to Belfast, to stay in that hostel.  , German ()
