Hostelz.com's Review
Global Village hostel has an ideal location in the Queen’s University area of Belfast, within easy reach of the city centre and surrounded by ample opportunities for nightlife. Despite this, the street is relatively quiet and traffic noise is not a problem. The hostel itself is in a beautifully converted Victorian house and has a small outdoor area.

The Location

Global Village Backpackers hostel is located in the Queen’s University district of Belfast, with its myriad of pubs, cafes, and restaurants, and within a short walk of the city centre. Botanic train station is just a few blocks away, and the Europa bus station is a little farther but also within walking distance.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms have locks on the door (each resident gets a set of keys, for the dorm room and front doors), but do not have in-room lockers. There are no storage shelves or other areas (other than the floor) for personal belongings, but floorspace is adequate (if a bit cramped). Size of dorm rooms varies from four to eight beds (with the usual bunk beds), and private rooms are also available.

There is a large communal unisex bathroom on the ground floor with separate toilet and shower cubicles. Shower cubicles have ample places to hang your clothing and other gear. There are private (individual) bathrooms with toilet/shower on an upper floor, but there are no ensuite bathrooms.

Common Spaces

The ground floor has two large common spaces, with the kitchen area sharing space in one room with a games area (including pool table). The kitchen is well-equipped and has a couple of tables for eating. The other large common room comprises the reception desk and a TV/seating area with comfy squashy couches and a fireplace. DVDs are available to view, but there is no book exchange.

There is no dedicated luggage storage but staff will let you keep your bags there after checkout, if you’re catching a later bus or train. There is free Wi-Fi available at the hostel and one computer (in the kitchen/game room) with free internet access.

The hostel is very sociable, filled with students from the nearby university as well as backpackers. The resident dog will also make you feel welcome (when he isn’t checking out your bag for treats). There is no smoking in the hostel.

A prime location and the friendliness of staff/clientele make this hostel an ideal location to base yourself while you’re exploring Belfast.

5   Best hostel I've seen I have been traveling for 2 months and stayed in a lot of hostels. The location is superb, exceptionally clean. Easy going staff. Extremely well run. Hot water and great water pressure in showers. Wifi worked great. Bed very comfortable. Only issues --cold in winter, had to request a heater, which we brought up to room outselves. Also, if you are on the top floor, you must descend 2 1/2 flights of stairs to reach the toilet. Only 1 under bed locker in a 4 bed room. Even so, I give a 5 rating. Cleaner than a lot of expensive hotels I have stayed in.  , age 51, USA ()
4   Very noisy on the weekend Likes -- Very friendly staff, amenability to accommodating changes to reservations, good common areas, laid-back, good kitchen, comfortable beds, good WiFi in the common areas. Dislikes -- Two pounds for a towel, very noisy on weekends, inadequate lockers in some rooms (either too few of them, or they are too small). Would stay here again during the week.  , age 27, Canada ()
5   Excellent Very nice place, the staff is kindly and helpful, excellent sitting room and cosy bed.  , Italy ()
5   The best hostel I've ever stayed at. I don't even know where to begin. Never have I felt so much at home while traveling. The manager is an awesome guy, and everyone who works at it is cool as. The kitchen is spacious and a great place to hang out, as is the living room, and both are open 24/7. Rooms are great, bathrooms are great, everything is spotless. If you don't stay here you're missing out. I can promise I'll be back. Thank you Fox, Cory, Ella, and Antoine. What a great place.  , age 19, USA ()
5   Awesome experience Amazing hostel in ideal location just outside city -- loved our trip here and will definitely be back soon. Thank you Brett and Fox for your hospitality, fantastic!  , Ireland ()
5   Brilliant! We had a double private room. It was well priced, plenty of facilities readily available despite the full capacity. No curfew! Everything was both clean and tidy. The staff were kind and pleasant, even the hostels dog! Definitely recommended and will use again.  , Northern Ireland ()
5   Great hostel We arrived very early. But that was no problem at all. We were able to leave our stuff with the receptionist and than start our tour through Belfast. The receptionist was very friendly, he answered all our questions. After we came back, he gave us a tour through the hostel. The room was very nice, it was clean and modern. The bathroom as well. The breakfast next morning was ok. We had toasts, cereals coffee, tea, jam -- a standard hostel breakfast. All in all I would recommend everyone of my friends, if they ever go to Belfast, to stay in that hostel.  , German ()
