Awesome facilities, so close to the beach
Had a great stay here at Aquarius and it must have changed. The kitchen, common area, bar, and reception areas are all brand new. The kitchen is huge, has a walk in fridge, five stoves and a huge dining/TV area. The new bar by the pool is pretty impressive too always something on like karaoke or other stupid and real cheep drinks. You get a free dinner every night in the bar included in your stay. The staff are helpful enough, all the dorms have their own bathrooms, which look pretty new. beach is real close. You are not allowed to drink in your rooms anymore and pretty strict about it, it's good in some ways and bad in others. All in all a pretty good place to stay in a beautiful part of the world!

I love it.
great location. i really like their kitchen! so clean and enough kitchen facilities. bathroom en-suite. near Jonson street, shops, convenience store, beach. it's great. i'd recommend to young travelers! my room was on second floor, i shared the room with other nine women, i think all of us were single travelers. i felt pretty safe. i'd go back there again!

Bit of a letdown
Stayed here January 2009. I only stayed here because a friend I'd met earlier on my trip was. A bit too impersonal for my tastes, apparently Aquarius used to be very good for the party atmosphere but this changed after it got licensed and put in its own bar -- now you're not allowed to bring alcohol onto the premises from outside, bit of a blow for people relying on their $10 bag of goon. Dorms are big, stayed in one on the ground floor with the french door straight off the carpark -- which was frequently left unlocked, not good for safety, especially when you're a single girl traveling on your own. I wouldn't stay here again.

Absolute Beauty!
Please, go to Aquarius! If you are the kind of person who is in Australia to have fun and party this is the place for you. I was looking for a place to stay for the night before going to Brisbane, and I ended up staying there for two months! Aquarius is by far the best atmosphere and houses the best people in the country. Your Australian experience will not be the same if you don't experience AQ.

Wicked
I got a great time at aquarius even if it was for one week. The bed dorms are very clean. However the cleaners wake you up at 10, but its all right. It's so close to the beach and you can rent body board, every morning you have the tides times. The kitchen is not very modern and organised but it was really ok. I recommend the Aquarius!

Loud, raucous party hostel, not for the faint hearted
Aquarius might be ok if you're eighteen and love to party, but unless you want a loud pumping bar right outside your bedroom, dorms with one bathroom between ten beds, and raucous europeans getting dirty in the bed next door and playing drinking games while sitting on your bed, you're likely to have an appalling night's sleep. Only my earplugs got me through.

Wicked!
I stayed three nights in mid-january '08 and had a great experience. Central location, large kitchen, delicious BBQs for a decently priced meal, amazing atmosphere, bar with happy hour, swimming pool, very close to beach. I would definitely recommend!

I have to say stayed in Sep '05 and I found the people lovely, the atmosphere great -- Stevie best barman, cool atmosphere in evenings, sharing meals, drinking vb and watching the simpsons, two beers for price of one (5 to 7p.m.) -- I have to say I loved it.

I was not impressed with the Staff here. Very rude and unhelpful. I cannot understand why backpackers stay on in Hostels to Live/Work if they cannot do the job! They forget so easily what it is like to backpack and should know better than to treat people so badly. There was also an incident of bullying of two young girls who were forced to request a room change after initially sharing with permanent staff/residents who warned them that lights out was at 10:30 and no talking was allowed!

Great Hostel, met some great people. Did have some homeless druggie come into our dorm but they sorted it and she was made to leave that night.... Great Place

Worst hostel I've stayed in during my time in oz, filthy and unsecured. We even had a homeless man sleeping in our dorm who had just wandered in. Stay clear of this dump!

Sorry, but I didn't like this place. My room wasn't clean enough and the bathroom certainly wasn't. When I mentioned it to the staff they were very rude. Don't stay here!

You can't bring your own alcohol here. I was shocked. In the end it's the people who make the place, and they made it a nightmare.

Absolutely loved it!!! The atmosphere was awesome, the people were great fun, the guys were hot, and the rooms and facilities were gorgeous! I'm definitely going back; this was the best hostel we could have stayed in.
