The Hostelz.com Review
No. 14 Budget Accommodation is a small and friendly budget hostel, offering mainly double and twin rooms for the more discerning traveler. There are two separate buildings providing accommodation, each with a kitchen, common areas, and bathrooms. The hostel is cosy, but provides all the necessary facilities and space to cook and socialise in a relaxed environment.
The Location
The hostel is about a ten-minute walk from Katoomba railway station, just outside the town centre and in a quiet residential area. Parking is available on adjacent streets. Katoomba is an excellent place to stay to explore the Blue Mountains. There are plenty of buses that travel around the key sites in the area, including Echo Point, which is about ten minutes' bus ride down Katoomba Street. This is a good starting point for well-signposted walks in the Blue Mountains, including the Three Sisters and Katoomba Falls.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorm rooms for up to four people are available, as well as double and twin rooms with and without bathrooms. We stayed in a dorm room in the Blue House, which is directly adjacent to the main building. The room is simple and clean, with a separate toilet and shower room next door. There are ample bathrooms for the rooms. There is also a washing machine and dryer in the main building.
Common Spaces
On the ground floor of the Blue House is a dining table and medium-sized kitchen, with all the necessary facilities including a cooker, microwave, toaster, pots and pans, crockery, and cutlery. There is also a comfortable lounge area with a small table, sofas, and a slow combustion fire, as well as a veranda with further seating. In the main building is another kitchen, two common areas with plenty of comfy seating and eating areas, and another veranda. There is also a computer with free internet and a television. This is a quiet but social hostel, with a chilled out vibe.
Summary
This hostel is excellent value, considering the quality of the rooms and facilities and the location. We would thoroughly recommend this hostel to backpackers and holidaymakers looking for a chilled out stay in Katoomba.

Beautiful and quiet This was one of the best hostels I stayed in OZ. Nice, clean, friendly and not too big, also close to the nature. What else do you want? And the town center with the train station is just walking distance. Beautiful to relax. — Stefan Fischer , Germany (2011-06-30)

Cosy and quiet getting to sydney with a jetlag. no 14 in the blue mountains is a perfect place to stay. we recommend the blue house -- its even more quiet. the rooms are nicely furnished and the kitchen is a good place to cook and to socialize. — Lena and Janina , german (2010-01-02)

Highly recommended This is a charming hostel with beautiful, well kept rooms and a quiet, inviting atmosphere. — Christy - fantastic stay! , Canada (2009-10-14)

Warm, comfy, clean, and friendly -- excellent value No. 14 is a lovely old guesthouse, friendly and warm. — Adrian Woodhouse , Australia (2008-09-20)
Disappointing. Katoomba offers better My girlfriend and I were in Sydney in August and we went to Katoomba for a romantic weekend in the Blue mountains. We booked No.14 over the internet because on their website it looked really nice. But when we got there, our room was really awful: it only had room for the bed, the mattress smelled, the window had a hole in it (lucky it wasn't a Swedish winter!), and we were right next to the noisy common rooms. We canceled and went to a nicer place but later they still billed my credit card without telling me. They said they had a twenty-four-hour cancellation policy (not on their website). So check it out before you give them your credit card details! — Soren , Sweden (2008-09-01)

Nice, cosy Clean, very cosy, and a lovely atmosphere. Great kitchen and free internet with computer. The beds and rooms are very clean and comfortable. Many thanks to the friendly lady who gave us some great suggestions for exploring the Blue Mountains. — Jordy and Kevin , Netherlands (2008-05-04)

Great, Quiet, Friendly Hostel I spent three nights here, and absolutely loved it. It was quiet, friendly, and relaxing. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice retreat in the beautiful Blue Mountains. — Daniel , USA (2008-04-18)

Loved this hostel! As soon as I stepped in the door I felt like I was back home. The people are so friendly and welcoming. It's the perfect place to return to after a long day of hiking. With no TV it's very quiet and the fireplace makes the lounge room a perfect spot to curl up and read a book (or three)! One word of warning though. I got terribly lost coming from the train station even though the directions seemed straightforward enough. If you come out of the station (at the town side), turn left, but stick to the pavement on the right side of the road (as the left pavement vears away from the road and you end up lost -- like me!). No. 14 is a little way down the road on the left. — belinda (2007-02-05)

This little place is lovely. It is so homey and friendly. Absolutely spotless with a great kitchen, it even has an oven. There's a fire in the lounge and lots of books and games. The rooms are bright and spacious and the beds are made up with sheets and duvets. The walls are painted with lovely little pictures. — Charlotte and Olly (2007-01-04)

Very clean, very quiet at night, and situated perfectly walking distance from Katoomba Station and close to Leura Mall. This place would serve as a perfect base for exploring the Blue Mountains. I come from Sydney and took the weekend up to visit the Mountains and would have loved to have stayed longer in this cute little place. Would recommend highly and will stay again some time. — TK (2006-12-13)

Had a lovely time there -- the lady who runs the place is great for info and so friendly. Kitchen is kept spotless and well organised. Bathrooms are clean, the only fault is that they are all off the dining room, so you have to come down and walk through the common areas for them, and there is no soap or towels. Rooms are lovely, all wooden floors and timber cladding. Such a cute place and way cheaper than other hostels. Only a couple of minutes walk down the hill from the train station. Veranda is lovely, loads of chairs and tables, and even a love seat to rock away the aches after a day walking in the bush. Just a lovely place to hang out. If you are after TV rooms and a gang to go drinking with this won't be the place, but if you fancy chilling out in a place that is like a home from home then this is perfect. P.S., bring towels as they are not in the rooms, but they may be available though. — Louise (2006-11-26)

Best hostel I've ever been to! Clean, lovely atmosphere, great kitchen facilities, friendly helpful staff with great suggestions for exploring the Blue Mountains. I loved the doonas and wooded floors and the fire. Also lots of showers in clean bathrooms. So simple but so nice! I loved the peacefulness. Excellent value for money too. — Heli (2006-10-22)

This is the nicest hostel I have stayed at to date: it's very clean, has nice facilities (a good number of showers for relatively few rooms) and a very friendly owner — Mandy! She is always willing to help you out or make suggestions if you're not sure what to do. The dorms are very comfortable, as are the double rooms. There isn't any TV or stereo, which makes for a nice change — especially in the Blue Mountains. — Kelly (2004-10-26)
