The Hostelz.com Review
This Hostel is very small and has a kind of spiritual atmosphere. The owners are very warm-hearted people and always available for a small talk. The rooms are very tidy and comfortable equipped. There is a lot more in the living room, kitchen, and bathroom than you would expect. Everything is more like living in someone's private house, it's tiny and very friendly.

They offer pickup, internet access (15 minutes for $1), TV, garden with BBQ facilities, a camping area, heaps of video tapes to watch (free), laundry, booking service, burning of pictures from your digital camera to CD, and rental of camping stuff (tent, sleeping bag, cocker, matress, etc.). The heap of video tapes you can watch for free is extrodinary.

The only drawbacks are that they have only three bathrooms and only two of them have a toilet (plus an additional toilet outside), therefore it can be a long wait for a shower, especially in the morning. But the Blue Mountains Katoomba Backpackers is a homelike, stress free, and calm accommodation that is more personal and cheaper than the YHA.

To get there: Walk up the main street from the Katoomba Train Station up to next round about. Go past a funeral company, a car seller, and a fruit shop (about 500m to walk).

Comfy, funky, grimy
The potential for being a hostel well worth a revisit is certainly there, had it not been for the grime. This place needs a serious sandblast to get rid of the cooties! Strong stench of mildew, so if you have respiratory problems, I suggest finding a different place for the night (of which there are plenty of alternatives in Katoomba). Otherwise, friendly, funky and spiced with a dash of OM. Nice outdoors, outback for pitching your tent and a quaint communal area that invites for storytelling. Get with it and clean this place up, guys -- it could be a jewel!

It was ok
Fairly quiet hostel that seemed well maintained. Stayed in a tent for seven days during the end of April and it got pretty cold at night, even snowed one night so be forewarned if your doing the tent thing this time of year. The hostel had a few extra blankets on hand and set me up once the temperature started dropping at night. Katoomba is a nice place to hang out after you get your fill of traveling up and down the east coast and a good place to end your backpacking experience at. Overall it wasn't the best hostel I was in but not the worst either.

Quiet in the winter, but nice
From everything I've heard, this place is the place to be in the summer! Unfortunately, I was there in June. But it was still very nice, very friendly. The walls are all decorated with travelers' artwork, and they have free art supplies if you are so inclined. Although there are only two showers, we didn't have a problem. The free breakfast is great! Wish I could come back in the summer.

Spotlessly clean, comfy dorm, wicked outside area to sit and play (hostel-supplied) guitars or didges, very friendly, and Ross will put himself out to help his guests. Perhaps his dry sense of humour could be misinterpreted, but only if you take life too seriously, in which case this wonderful laid-back place wouldn't be up your street! If I had more time here I'd go back for a month.

I booked a campsite using my credit card and gave them my mobile number in case there were any problems. We turned up and they had given our camping spot away. The man who runs the place was very, very rude and blatantly lied about what happened. We were stuck in Katoomba between xmas and nye with nowhere to stay and they couldn't have cared less. Horrible backpackers and run by horrible people. I would never recommend anyone to stay here. We went down the road and checked into another backpackers. Shame on you Flying Fox backpackers.

I stayed here in November. the weather wasn't too good but their hostel made up for it big time. It's one of the best hostels I have stayed in while in Australia. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I'll be back again soon and hopefully the sun will be out.

Cool place with terriffc artwork by travellers. Really clean and super friendly with the best chill out area with a log fire to hang around on those not so warm nights. Go there!

This is a great hostel. Small, friendly and has a very homely feel. There's everything you need; clean kitchen, laundry, dining room, internet, TV with free videos to watch, and the log fire in the lounge room is great. The only negative point is that it only has 3 toilets and 2 showers.

Clean and comfy and great to get back to after walking all day. The only negative is that there are not enough bathrooms for the amount of people staying, so get up early if you want a shower.

What a great hostel! Not the place to go if you are looking for "Party Bars" or that sort of thing but exactly what I wanted out of a hostel. You show up and are greeted and given a tour. When we asked about hikes we should do, the owner (Russ) not only told us of a great walk that would bring us back to the hostel but he drove us to the trailhead. After a great barbecue we all hung out by the fire in the main room and had a great time. This sort of thing was repeated everyday! If you actually want to get to know this area go here, they are experts!

This hostel was very nice! It was one of the best hostels we stayed in throughout Australia. The kitchen area was very clean and easy to use and the rooms were nice as well. The owners were very friendly and helpful, too. They told us all about the hikes we wanted to do and even let us have some of the warmer clothes they had...since we weren't as prepared as we should have been. Definitely recommend!!

Comfortable, friendly and welcoming. The owners and staff know about the local walks and can give hints and tips on how to make the host of your time in Katoomba. Well recommended.

I spent a few weeks at the Blue Mountains. The owners are some of the nicest people I met in Australia. Ask them to share a bottle of wine with you around the fire! I really miss it there now that I am back home in Canada. I highly recommend staying at this hostel; it is a home away from home.
