The Hostelz.com Review
South Coast Backpackers, this small cottage, is situated on top of a hill, approximately ten minutes walk from the harbour and fifteen minutes walk from Ulladulla centre, where you can find shops, a pub, and a few restaurants. Ulladulla is a quiet small town but very pleasant to stay for a couple of days.

This hostel has a large fully-equipped kitchen with storage space for food and fridges with separate compartments for each room. The common areas include a living room with TV and a nice terrace with tables where you can eat and relax. The rooms are not very big but cosy and clean. At night, the place can be noisy though.

Mark and Helen, the owners, are nice but a little bit too concerned. They give you information about Ulladulla and all the instructions you need to know about the hostel. They have many, many rules posted all over the place telling you what to do and not to do. On the plus side, you can borrow some bicylces and surf boards for free. We really had a good time there and would definitely go back.

5 Worth it to stop by, for sure!
This hostel was one of the best I ever stayed at. No signs of dirt at all -- it is very clean, very comfortable. I loved it. Me and my friends even lengthened our stay from two to four nights -- with body boards, surfboards, and bikes for free did we have a lot of fun. If you're around, definitely make a stop in Ulladulla, enjoy the nice beaches, very friendly people, great atmosphere, and book in Southcoast Travellers!

5 Well worth it!
We really liked Southcoast Travellers Rest. It was very clean and cosy -- as close to home as you can get. The beds were very comfortable and the linen had that fresh smell. The towels were soft and the bathrooms and toilets very clean. They ask you to clean up after yourself when you cook but hey, that's what you do in your own home so no problem. If everyone does it then it's always nice and clean -- no great trouble to do so we thought. The owners have great local knowledge -- Mark is an avid fisherman and surfer so knows all about the best spots to catch a fish or a wave. They have push bikes, boogie, and surfboards and of course beach towels to loan you (at no cost!). We stay here at least three times each year. Oh, and there are definitely no cockroaches!

1 Disgustingly dirty
Cockroaches galore. I would seriously not recommend this place to anyone. I was booked in for two nights but only stayed one night after I woke up to find cockroaches crawling along the dorm room floor. Despite mentioning this to the management, nothing was done to rectify the situation. In fact, I found the owner extremely rude and unpleasant. I advise any backpackers to fork out the extra dosh and stay in one of the budget motels nearby instead.

5 We loved it here; the hostel is like a home away from home. Everything is really clean and cozy. The owners were really helpful and friendly, we had a log fire every night, and the best sleep ever in the comfy beds! Definitely make a stop here!

4 We had a great stay at South Coast Backpackers. The owners, Mark and Helen, were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were bright and clean, and all the common spaces had a very homey feel, with a nice big deck outside. Very comfortable indeed, and just a short walk or bike ride to all the beaches and local amenities!
