The best place I stayed at in Japan I just returned from a 3-week trip to Japan, and Nikko Guesthouse Sumica was the first place I stayed at. I stayed at some pretty great places thereafter, but they still fell shot of the hospitality I enjoyed at Sumica. Sato and Kumiko, the proprietors take such a personal interest in their guests, and basically treat you like family. They really go out of their way to be helpful and make your experience of their country a much more meaningful one. I have many fond memories of the 2 days I spent with them and the other guests at Sumica, and would definitely wholeheartedly recommend Sumica for anyone visiting Nikko or the surrounding area. Admittedly, some may find Sumica a tad small and cramped, but this is compensated for by the large hearts of its hosts, who soon make any feeling of "small and cramped" become "intimate and cosy." Sumica is also conveniently located just a couple of minutes' walk from both the train and bus stations, and a short walk from a supermarket. — Colin , Malaysia (2010-07-27)
