Hostelz.com's Review
Swiss Hostal Martinik is hidden away behind a small door on Carrera 4, but don't be confused by the scruffy, outdoor façade. Behind its wooden doors are a wealth of communal spaces and a friendly welcome by the staff.

The Location

Located in La Candelaria, Hostel Martinik is one of many hostels that are crammed into the scenic, old-town part of the city. From here you are five minutes' walk from the closest TransMilenio (bus) stop that will connect you to the rest of the city. All the major points of interest are within easy walking distance, with the Plaza Boliviar under ten minutes' walk away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are a reasonable size and are not too cramped when filled with large backpacks. The mattresses are decent and the warm covers help keep out that chilly Bogotá weather during the night. Unfortunately the small pillows have a plastic underlayer, which is a little uncomfortable.

Showers are clean. A sign in the bathroom advises that you can get hot water, but only if you sacrifice the pressure. True to its word, you can make the water warm, but the result is pressure that is little more than a dribble.

Common Spaces

Common spaces are plentiful; in the reception area are a TV, two communal computers, a hammock, and a number of seats where you can chill out or access one of the hostel's three Wi-Fi networks or meet fellow travelers. The free breakfast that consists of bread, jam, cereal, and coffee is served in this area until 11 a.m. daily. Strong metal lockers that can be secured by a padlock are also in this area. These are large enough to fit a normal daypack and you can ensure in their security as they are positioned next to the reception area, which is staffed twenty-four hours. Next door is a TV room again with a number of comfortable seats. There is another seating area on the second floor, with six comfy seats being placed around a table. The kitchen area is huge and also features a couple of tables.

Summary

Swiss Hostal Martinik is a middle of the road hostel in Bogotá. The free breakfast is a nice touch that you don't get in all the hostels in the local area, and the larger dorm rooms are very competitively priced.
