Rich View Hostel is not for those who desire luxury but rather those who desire a friendly environment. It is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for a cheap bed and pleasant company.
The Location
Rich View Hostel is easy to find and is about a two-minute drive from the "hub" of Keel, if that. It is a fantastic location. The bus stops nearby and there is plenty of parking.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorm rooms are bright but nothing fancy. Door keys are provided for private rooms and for the front door of the hostel, but they are not really needed as the hostel seems to take in only honest and friendly people. There are two dorm rooms and three private rooms, though the private rooms seem to differ quite a bit in their size. One downstairs, painted bright yellow with a porpoise painted on the wall, has only two small single beds. The private rooms upstairs are quite spacious and have good views along with a double bed (and possibly a single bed in addition).
Bathrooms are long and spacious, separated according to sex, and have sliding locks on the doors. They aren't beautiful but they get the job done just fine with plenty of places to hang your clothes and so on.
Common Spaces
There is a living room of decent size with the kitchen in the back. The living room is not beautiful and has some uncomfortable couches and whatnot but there is a small table if you wish to do some work there. There is no luggage storage or computer center, but that is to be expected at such a small, homemade hostel. It's pretty quiet in the day and there are plenty of books and music tapes to occupy yourself with. There is also a small television. In the evening the living room can often become rowdy with socializing travelers. This is when Rich View Hostel becomes "worth it." If you are interested in making some friends and having a good time at the sacrifice of luxury, this is the place for you.
The kitchen is also quite small but again, it gets the job done. There is a small fridge and stove, as well as a kettle, toaster, and a microwave. A small dining table is also provided. There is no laundry on-site but if you wish to wash your own clothes there are clothes wires outside for them to dry (this is common on the island as dryers do not work very well).
Summary
While the interior of the hostel certainly does not impress, there are certain rooms that offer stellar views in the spring and summer. The owners are fantastically friendly and helpful, and the vibrant social atmosphere cannot be denied.
