The Hostelz.com Review
TIU Bolshaya Sevastopol is a great hostel located in the central part of Sevastopol, Ukraine. It is open only during the summer season. The price is not low but you have more than the basics offered by most hostels and the place is remarkably clean.
The Location
The location is very good -- it is just in the center of Sevastopol, within a very short walking distance of the major sites. You can go for a walk on two of the main streets making a circle and you will see all the sights in less than three hours. If you come by train, you need to take a taxi or public transportation as the train station is about six kilometers from the center. The train station is also next to the bus station. Our advice is to take a tram -- buses are overcrowded and you can easily miss your station. Trams and buses are very cheap. You need to get off at Bolshaya Morskaya Street. The hostel is also four minutes from McDonald’s.
The hostel is within walking distance of the historical monuments in Sevastopol, including the Totleben monument, the Black Sea Fleet Museum, the Panorama Museum, and many others.
Rooms and Bathrooms
At TIU Bolshaya Sevastopol you can choose between dorms and private rooms; there are blankets, linens, and the beds are comfortable. The linens are replaced regularly and the rooms are very clean. The eight-bed room has four bunk beds and a couch for sitting and that does not leave much space in the room. There are no lockers but if you want, you can leave some luggage at the reception. The place is clean and there are no exotic smells or stains anywhere.
There is one bathroom, which might be a problem when there are more people. It is very clean, yet nothing sophisticated. There is one shower and one toilet for all visitors. The hostel is not big, so it is a problem only during the rush hour in the morning. The shower is clean as the owner kindly asks visitors to clean up after themselves and is very strict about it.
Common Spaces
Other amenities include a laundry room with washers and dryer -- it is free, but you pay for the powder unless you use your own; a kitchen with plenty of stove eyes and a refrigerator; all kind of utensils and free tea (they offer a great variety); one computer with internet as well as Wi-Fi. You must check out by noon. One good thing is that there is no deposit. There is a separate large room with couches and enough place to leave your luggage.
The atmosphere at the TIU Sevastopol hostel is quiet. It is by no means a party hostel and drunken behavior is not tolerated. However, you can enjoy a quite peaceful stay and you can expect zero trouble at the hostel. The owner is a huge Australian guy, who is very helpful and approachable and can answer efficiently most of your questions concerning not only Sevastopol but also Ukraine. He is also very strict about discipline and cleaning -- much more than the average for a hostel, but that is what keeps the place in such great condition.

Overall, the hostel is very good and you receive good value for your money. The service is great, nothing to do with the rest of Ukraine and the owner is very customer-oriented.

Perfect hostel for exploring Sevastopol and its surroundings! Its hard to NOT to love TIU Bolshaya hostel. It consists of one big dorm with 8 beds, bathroom, kitchen, and a lovely common room. The location is perfect right by the big street of Sevastopol, 5 min walk to the beach. I had a hard time finding the hostel but thats because i forgot printing the directions. With the directions there is really no problem. The one thing that rises this hostel above others is the staff. Its run by Sylwia and Adam who seems to love their job, putting down a lot of work to make your stay that little extra. The 4x4 tour with adam let you see an ex.soviet base inside a mountain that has been forgotten, the submarine base in balaclava, and also takes you up a mountain with his car. A must if you go to Sevastopol! The nightlife in Sevastopol is great for a weekend, not a whole week, two big clubs and a lot of bars 5 min from the hostel. Everything is in its place and very clean, thats also a plus. summary: Sevastopol is not the place to go party 5 days a week, its more of a relaxed city and the atmosphere is pretty much no stress, TIU Bolshaya hostel has that exact same atmosphere, I just love it! — Denny , Sweden (2010-07-18)
