Smelled of cat litter box. This is an old house built in 1800. the owners do not live at the house and I was there all alone with some cats. I met the owners in town to get the key. They are elderly and charming. The entry smelled of cat litter box. There was cat hair all over the main room. The bed rooms were sparse, dark, and musty. The microwave was so rusted it left rust sprinkles on the food. The showers were moldy and one had hair all over the floor. There was no stove. The propane camp stove was rigged with a rubber hose to the propane tank (due to concern for fire, I did not use). There were scant dishes. There was no phone in the event of fire or a hazard. The fridge was not plugged in. The place is on a blind spot on a road busy with farm implements and trucks. The stars were beautiful and the rose garden lovely. The history was interesting. For 18 Euros, no breakfast and two kilometers from town, I would recommend you stay anywhere but here. — Sole Traveler , USA (2009-09-26)

The statute of limitations on time elapsed since my stay at Lisakyle Hostel may render my opinion irrelevant; it was 1994 after all. But I will never forget the hospitality and kindness of Maurice Condon. I picked up a stomach virus somewhere ("out of the clear blue sky" as Mr. Condon explained with some authoritative finality) and spent the better part of two days lying on the floor of our room and periodically vomiting in the waste basket. Maurice never seemed upset that some kid from Texas was fouling the air in his place. He let me follow him around the property while he fed the cats. He sat and talked with me while I had some thin soup on my way to recovery. These were small gestures, which certainly were just aspects of Mr. Condon's normal character, but I was thousands of miles from home, sick to my stomach and honestly feeling a bit sorry for myself. Cahir and the surrounding area are beautiful and in spite of a rocky start I enjoyed staying at Lisakyle Hostel. Thanks sincerely. — Philip Martin (2005-03-18)
