Hostelz.com's Review
Hostel Colonial La Quinta may not look like much from the outside, but inside you will be pleasantly surprised. The building has an authentic colonial style and is kept spotlessly clean by a cleaning lady who seems to be constantly labouring away.

The Location

As with the majority of hostels in Bogotá, Hostal Colonial La Quinta is located in the historic district of La Candelaria, surrounded by most of the major tourist sights. The main museums are only a ten-minute walk away and there is close access to the TransMilenio bus service that can ferry you all over the city. The whole of La Candelaria is a little sketchy at night, but in particular the side street, on which the hostel is located, is poorly lit.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms are located at the front of the hostel. The wooden beds feature reasonably comfortable mattresses and thick covers, which are necessary in the often cold Bogotá nights. Sturdy metal lockers -- which can house your small backpack -- are located in the rooms; bring your own padlock. The showers are clean and give hot water on demand.

Common Spaces

There are two main common areas. The first is as you enter the hostel in the reception area, where there are wooden chairs that surround a small table. The second is at the back of the hostel where there are two computers with internet access (although only one worked during our visit) and a kitchen table around which travelers can socialise fueled by local beers available at a price from the hostel. There are three toilets around this area. The Wi-Fi is excellent and we were even able to stream a sports game with perfect quality.

The breakfast, which is included in the price, is a choice of hot (scrambled eggs and a warmed croissant with fresh juice) or cold; it's better than the standard bread and jam offered in the majority of hostels in the area.

Summary

Although small and quiet and not a party hostel, the good breakfast, hot showers, and clean facilities provide decent value for money. Having said this, other hostels in the area are arguably more lively and for the same price you can get a four-bed dorm rather than sharing with seven others in La Quinta. With a few pros and cons, La Quinta is a decent, middle-of-the-road hostel that is more conducive with a relaxing stay in Bogotá than the crazy parties that are encouraged elsewhere.
