Dempsey's House Hostel is run by the owner of a garage next door -- very helpful and accommodating -- but the hostel does retain the garage feel. The town of Kinsale itself is a cute little seaside nook, decked with little Irish pubs and swathes of yachts. More famous is the luxury golf course nearby where wealthy foreigners come jetting in for a round.
The feel of the hostel is relaxed and fairly quiet, with only a handful of people around, due to the limited number of beds. The hostel kitchen is small, with microwaves, cookers, and cutlery -- quite old, but clean. No breakfast is available. The lounge is comfortable and open, and the outside door leads into a simple but pleasant conservatory with place to put your feet up with a good book or play some ping-pong. The bedrooms are spacious, with basins, mirrors, and large windows, and bedding is provided. Bathrooms are simple but sufficient. Not much effort has been made to beautify any of the rooms, but things are pretty much in order.
Dempsey's is just fine as a place to stay while you're passing through, but it won't get onto your highlights of Ireland list.
